WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A former cashier for The Home Depot who has been wearing a "One nation under God" button on his work apron for more than a year has been fired, he says because of the religious reference. The company claims that expressing such personal beliefs is simply not allowed.

"I've worn it for well over a year and I support my country and God," Trevor Keezor said Tuesday. "I was just doing what I think every American should do, just love my country."

This is so bogus! If HD really had a problem w/ this, why didn't they say anything during the entire YEAR he's been wearing this pin? You can't tell me NO ONE in mgmt noticed it in the past year.

He probably was not a model employee. Even the guy dh got fired at the VA had been written up several times for refusing to do his job. He probably told everyone it was because of his religion (he was utlraobnoxious about it), but it was really because numerous veterans and other employees complained about him never working and always having to cover for his lazy butt.

IF the company had a policy that the employee could only wear company provided buttons and he was wearing one not provided then I think they were in their right to fire him (although I don't agree with it)

If he had been wearing it for over a year and no one noticed then I thnk the company has other issues or maybe just the fact that he was bringing his Bible upset fellow team members and caused an upraor and they needed a reason to dispose of him.

Or he'd just been a long term problem and they used this excuse. I think companies are actually forbidden to say publicly why they fire people. I know if you fire someone you can't give a bad reference. you have to say, "they worked here" and nothing worse than that by law in a lot of states. If say, he was late a lot or took a lot of breaks, etc, they may not allowed by law to say all the reasons they had for firing him.
