Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

Anyone being crafty for the holidays?

I am making each of the kids a flannel raggie blanket Stuart's is just about cut out and I just got fabric for Peyton's last week. I need some $$ to get the flannel for the other girls .... I may do one for my nephew too but not sure on that since his mom is pretty ungrateful I'm not sure I want to put that much energy into something for him)

I am also making each of the girls an outfit for Christmas and they are getting a matching AG dress.

For the inlaws I am attempting to make a clock with pictures of the kiddos at 12, 3,6 & 9. I wanted to include all the grandkids (there are 12) but when I asked for pictures from my step inlaws? they looked at me like I had three heads. If I knew we would all get together again before the holidays I'd take the pictures myself, but that isn't likely to happen.

Then I am going to make a CD with all the girls dances on them for the grandparents. Haven't really decided on anything else yet - but ya all know me

Dh bought Christmas plates last year and decopauged photos of the girls on them. He also made a clock with a photo of the girls for my dad for Christmas. Otherwise, we are buying gifts this year.

OOH Plates! I may go that route if the clock doesn't work (I have no idea - I'm just winging it.) I wanted to do something different this year. Did you do both girls on one plate?

It was their Christmas photo of them together, so yes.

Re: Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

well.... I'm hoping to finish the girls quilts for Christmas (I have Tessa's top done, and Sammie's but... haven't even started to contemplate Karah's). I need to quilt and bind Tessa's and then move on to Sammie's. The girls will each get a dress (if I can manage to make them....) and a matching dress for their stuffed animals.
I'm making a scarf for Jim (I actually did most of it last year, but he wants it lengthened...) and I'm trying to figure out what else to make for the family.
The girls will make decopauged planters for their teachers, the inlaws etc... Super easy we did them last year for their teachers and it went well. Empty cottage cheese and butter containers, spray painted white and then decopauged with tissue paper.

Hey Karen! Those flannel raggie blankets are a really great gift idea for your kids! Homemade gifts for the holidays are such a great way to add a personal touch to your gift-giving. I work with C&H Sugar and we have lots of homemade gift ideas on our holiday website, ranging from edible ornaments and cookbooks, to sugar body scrubs and cookie mixes in a jar. Let me know what you think! J

Tell me exactly how you make those! I'm clueless and it sounds like a great gifts for Ally's teachers (she has 6 this year!). I can easily come up with butter containers, or hit MIL up for some if I don't have enough. White tissue paper or colored? Just how do you decopage? See, told ya I was clueless!

Re: Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

Oh, I have been saving quite a few craft ideas for Ally and i to try to make for gifts. One of my missions this coming weekend is to decide which ones and to buy the materials. Not sure which ones, but I'll let you know.

Re: Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

Brenda... They are super easy. I spray paint the empty containers a solid color (whatever you have on hand if you have some, if not white or off white will work). Then we rip up tissue paper into small pieces. Spread some Modge podge (I think white glue works too) on the container, put down a piece of paper, spread some more glue, add more paper till the whole container is covered. Then give it all one more layer of glue, modge podge whatever to seal it. I have the girls do the lids too, they can be used as a drip tray if they put a plant in it, or a lid if you put cookies in them.

Re: Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

Heather, I looked it up and I CAN use a little watered down Elmer's type glue. Went out today and found some GREAT heavy paper square boxes at the dollar store. Only bought 2 to give it a try, but I'll probably go back tomorrow to buy more. They only had about 10 or 12, but they've been there a while. Also pick up 2 packs of pastel tissue paper and 2 packs of bright colored tissue paper. Gonna go thur my scrapbooking paper to see if I have anything in there I want to use. I'm thinking of making 2 boxes for the teen neices to use as keepsakes boxes and I thinkt he scrapbooking paper will work better for those. Ally and I are really looking forward to trying this! Thanks for the idea!

Re: Anyone doing anything Handmade for the upcoming holidays?

No worries Brenda! Doing boxes is a great idea! I may have to whip a couple of those up tonight for my nieces before I leave for Iowa tomorrow. I have two plain white scrapbook paper boxes that would work great for Memento type boxes and TONS of scrapbook paper I need to get rid of since I"m not really scrapping anymore.
