I found a few ways to cut my expenses that I wasn't aware of that I thought that I would share with you all and was also interested in how everyone else has thought to cut expenses to get a few more ideas.
Originally I was trying to figure out how to cut costs so that the children and I can get a membership to the YMCA since they offer a better daycare program for Parker (yay-gonna start trying to lose this pesky 20lbs soon!).
Here is what I came up with-
Lowered my liability amounts on my car insurance to the minimum saving $65 year and aprox $8 monthly.
Canceling Netflix and borrowing movies from the library (we are able to reserve newly released movies online!) and from finding free RedBox codes online savings of $15 a month
I looked over my utility bills to see what extras I had that we could remove.
We don't have cable or high speed internet but we do have a landline and I had originally called Centurytel to cancel my inside wire maintenance ($4.95 mo) and found that they have been over charging my account by $8 a month for some time! They fixed that so I only owe $11.76 this month and nothing next month!
And my new phone bill will be around $18 a month cheaper!
Another idea is to go from a metro line to a regular residence line if you have a landline which is usually a big difference.
Also, check with your electric and gas companies to see if they will credit your account with any deposits you may have made to start your service. My gas company credited my account for making timely payments the past year and I didn't have a gas bill this month or next!
BIG SAVINGS there!
My total amount saved from my monthly budget will be aprox $30! It may not sound like a lot to each of you but for us it's huge when every penny counts.
I've also been really working the coupons to help out in our consumable item costs which has added up to huge savings as well. Each week I have been saving aprox $20 just on groceries and I also get a lot of items like toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper etc for next to nothing using Walgreen's register rewards paired with coupons and sales.
To help with Christmas, birthdays and special needs throughout the month (like getting my hair foiled and cut-LOL) we have been ebaying which has been a huge help as well. If you have never sold on Ebay it is SUPER easy! You should look into it!
Back to my original statement on joining the YMCA-check into getting a reduced rate for your family size/income. We will be able to have a membership for the entire family for only $35 a month. I was paying $22 a month just for myself at Rhino Fitness!
Anyway, those are some ways that I have found to save money. What have YOU been doing to cut costs?
