should I take another pregnancy test?

Ok I am suppose to start my period today but so far I haven't. I also have absolutely NO symptoms of PMS. Usually I have really strong cravings for sweets, my boobs hurt for like a week before, sometimes I get cramps, and of course bloated and moody. I have no symptoms, and I am suppose to start today. I did take a pregnancy test on Saturday because I still wasn't having any PMS but the test is negative. I am trying to decide whether I should go buy another test or just hold off. Any opinions??

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

How late are you? For most tests you need to be at least 3-4 weeks along - minimum. Some of them are 6 weeks. You could be and its just not showing yet. Or you could just be having an off month. There are sooooo many things that can throw your system off. Heck, I NEVER know when I'm going to get my period. (I think its the stress of having a teenager! LOL!) Give it a few days and try again, unless you are pretty sure your are at least several weeks along.

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

No, I would at the most be 3 weeks but somewhere between two and three.... The test I took on Saturday said it could predict up to five days before a missed period....but I guess that doesn't guarentee accurate results that early....(or at least I hope the results weren't accurate.) I am not even late yet for my period either...lol Today is the day...so tomorrow I will be late...hopefully. I know I should wait but I really hate being patient...lol

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

If it puts your mind at ease, I would go ahead and test again. However, i would get the cheap tests if I were going to be testing a lot, because those $15 per test can really add up. Good luck!

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

Or your hormones are too low to register on the test.

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

I really hope that's it but I thought that they were suppose to be like 95% accurate on the day of your missed period...but who knows..lol I am kind of a weirdo ... so I wouldn't be surprised if my hormones were still low. I just don't know how I'm not gonna spend a fortune on tests until I either start or get into the Dr. ... lol

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

I've seen pregnancy tests at both the Dollar General and the Dollar Tree behind the counter for $1 each. I am guessing they are as effective as some of the more expensive tests. I understand they are the same ones the health department uses.

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

Actually, the best tests tp get for early detection are the ones from the dollar stores, Walmart and Target brands. These tests will detect as little as 25mIU of hCG. Most "early detection" kits that are brand names will detect starting to 50mIU.

As long as you can tell that a line has or hasn't shown up, don't spend the money on the digital tests. You can test at any point in the day, the hCg levels will be the strongest with first morning urine, but will show at any point in the day.

Ah ha, found my copy of the chart of test comparisons:

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

Quick question : Does anyone think that vitamins can skew a pregnancy test? Right now I take large doses of Fish Oil, Folic Acid, Multivitamin, B2, D, and Vitamin E. These are suppose to help my MS in different ways and obviously are good for me before concieving. I'm just wondering because the vitamins that don't get absorbed into my body are excreted in my urine, so I'm wondering if it could skew a test somehow?

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

I wouldn't think so. Still no AF? Fingers crossed for you!

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

Vitamins can not skew a pregnancy test. Only medications for the treatment of infertility can (and those fall into the progesterone and estrogen categories).

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

Honestly, based on my own experience, my guess is that your period is late. When Kyle and I were trying to get pregnant, I did the same thing you are doing now, and my period would be late, and I'd test and test, hoping the test wasn't picking up my hormones, but then I'd eventually start. By contrast, when I was actually pregnant, the first time we did fertility treatments, and my doctor told me to go purchase any pregnancy test and I wanted, and to test 3 weeks after we did artificial insemination, and I did, and it was positive. The line was so faint that I thought I was seeing things, but it was there. With my second pregnancy (no fertility treatments), my period was two weeks late, and when I tested, there was no mistaking the line indicating it was positive. My doctors (fertility specialist and regular ob/gyn) both told me that home pregnancy tests are now very accurate, so if I were you, I would wait another few days up to a week (if you can wait that long--I know I never could! ) and test one more time. If that is negative, then you know your period is just taking its sweet time showing up.

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

I know that when I was pregnant w/ my daughter, I waited one week after my missed period to take the test and the line was visible right away. Back then I was on Clomid, and pregnant w/ twins so I know my hormones were higher at that time. I might be late for my regular period but I can't remember the last time I was late, I have been pretty regular for quite a while now, plus I still have NO PMS at all. I don't know though, I took another test today and it was negative. I have heard alot of people say it took them a week or two after their missed period to get a positive pregnancy test. I am starting to second guess my own sanity regarding when I was suppose to start, I can't tell you how many times I have counted the days from October 17 lol.

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

have you been under more stress than usual? That can reak havoc on your cycle.........and sometimes our bodies just naturally decide its time to change the way our cycles are.....

Re: should I take another pregnancy test?

You can get them at the Dollar Tree or the Dollar General for $1/each. They are the very same ones used by the Health dept. I know when you are ttc, you want to check hourly even when the little positive line finally pops up. Good luck to you!
