When is the tree going up?

I just read that Maree puts hers up on the first of December every year and was wondering when everyone else puts theirs up.

Mine doesn't usually go up until about 1.5 - 2 weeks before the Holiday. I don't want to get sick of it, so I wait a little while.

Well - I would have had mine up right after Thanksgiving (normally the Friday or Saturday after. ) but I decided to wait a wee bit longer as I am sure Stuart will want to play in it and I need to make Kevs job as easy as possible when I'm not here.

Normally it goes up Thanksgiving weekend... but this year we were out of town. I'm not sure when it will go up. I think we may bring the boxes in from the garage today and set up the tree with the lights. It will more than likely be Thursday or Friday evening before it gets decorated. Tessa gets home too late from school M,T, and Wed due to after school stuff to have time to do it. Thursday she normally is struggling to finish her homework that is due on Friday.

We always do it on Black Friday at our house. This year, Billy put it up Thanksgiving evening so we could decorate first thing Friday morning. (fake tree, takes awhile to put it together and fluff.

Normally it goes up the weekend after thanksgiving, but this year it will be going up this coming weekend. Just too much else going on and I don't have the house ready for it or to be decorated. That's what I'm working on this week. Bill will decorate the front door and outside alcove, as well as the bushes in front of the house (can't afford the electric for the whole house this year), while the kids and I decorate the tree and the house. I'll do a bit more in the house to make up for less outside. Ally and I even plan to string popcorn - she begged, I relented. I'll give it a try. So Friday night we'll string it so it can go on the tree Saturday.

I've done that. Do you have an air popper? Greasy popcorn is harder to string IMO.

I made the kids advent calenders in the shape of xmas trees when they were about 2 and put a little xmas decoration and small lolly in each of the 24 pockets. Every night they would have their lolly and put a decoration on the tree so the tree gradually got more decorated as the month went on with the 3 new decorations going on every night On the 1st I put the tree up and the lights and garlands. After that the rest of the decorations just went up as the kids added them Des and I would add one as well. I must admit at almost 18 the boys don't do their advent calenders anymore which I find sad but they find it just lame LOL

Maree... I love that idea! We may have to try that next year.... not as much work and then the tree gets decorated gradually!!!

We wait a little while too. But we always get a real tree and if you get it too early it gets all dried out and will probably just barely last until the holidays. However, if you have a fake tree, you can put it up whenever without having to worry about it drying out. So why not make the holidays last as long as possible?
