Author Stephen King and his wife are donating money so 150 soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard can come home for the holidays.

I think it's great that these soldiers are getting a trip home for the Holidays and I in no way want to knock the spirit of giving ... However, King was approached and asked to do this... It's not an idea that sprang from the goodness of his heart. On top of that, what is $13,000 to Stephen King? Not much.

I thought it was a nice thing to do even if his assistant thought of it first.

I agree Lenora, it is a nice thing to do. If someone brings something to your attention and you agree to help that does not take away the kindness and consideration of the act.

And while he has plenty of money that does not mean he has to give it away like water, there are an awful lot of people with an awful lot of money that never give any of it away.

I hope karma rolls him some good luck or at least some pain free time after that awful awful accident that almost killed him and left his writing future in doubt, even with memory problems he has managed to continue to entertain use and I hope he continues for many years to come. I've been waiting for a book to come out with a drunk driving moron in it ever since

When I was in the Air Force, this would have meant a lot to me. These men and women are going off to war. This may be the last Christmas some of them will ever have with their families. I'm glad they got to spend the holidays with their families. According to my dh, who worked with the Marines a lot more than I did, oftentimes when the Marines are in training, they do not let their people go home for the holidays. I am guessing this is a special thing because they will all be leaving and returning together.
