Re: Senators Demand General Rescind Order on Pregnant Soldiers
In my six years in the AF and dh's 8 years in the Army, we saw many, many women pull this trick to get out of an onerous deployment. Many of these women had abortions or gave up the baby for adoption proving they did it only to get out of the Middle East. After their abortions, they were sometimes court marshaled. These women were horrible for moral in every imaginable way. 1) Other people hate having to pull extra shifts, do extra jobs and basically take on a whole second job because this person isn't there to do her job. She's home on light duty while these folks are busting hind end in dangerous situations. This leads to a lot of resentment. 2) Women who don't get pregnant and do their jobs get treated worse and get less respect. 3) Usually someone who had a very good reason for not being deployed or who is untrained takes the woman's place, because that is all who are left behind when a unit deploys.
If these women get home and have an abortion or give the child away, they should abolsolutly be court marshaled. No one wants to be out in the desert. They don't have it any worse or feel any worse than the men and women who stayed and did their jobs.
