Are any of your kids readers?

So far it doesn't look like any of my kids have a big interest in reading ... kinda bums me out because I was and am such a big book nerd. I was reading adult novels in the 3rd grade.
Haley will read of book if she has a big interest in it ... She read the first book in the Twilight series but didn't make it through book 2 and she flew threw A Child Called It but she rarely takes the time to give a book a chance.
Zachary, at 8 years old, has zero interest in reading ... he'd much rather play his video games.
And Gracie, is only 3 and while I read to her, she doesn't seem to care much ... maybe there is hope for her.

Re: Are any of your kids readers?

Both my kids enjoy reading or being read to. Kate is excellent at it. I often catch her reading. Has Haley tried a Wrinkle in Time? She might relate better to a book with a female lead character that does not involve a lot of magic or dramatics. I imagine you have read the books. I wasn't a girl when I read her books, but I also enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables books. If she liked Little House on the Prarie, she might like the Canadian version of a simaliar tale.

Alyssa loves to read. Kate is still learning so her and Peyton love to be read too. Stu doesn't have too much interest in books yet (unless he can eat them.. he's all about eating these days )

Re: Are any of your kids readers?

My boys will read from time to time if they are really interested but mainly Emily is my big reader right now. I too, was reading adult novels by 4th/5th grade, Elaine, so I really hope that at least a couple of my kids find the joy in reading as I did at a young age. I remember reading Misery by Stephen King in 5th grade and it was one of my favs! I can't believe that my parents allowed me to read that stuff!

Re: Are any of your kids readers?

OMG Liz loves to read. She reads so much that she actually gets into trouble because she won't keep her nose out of a book. She will rush through her tests and stuff at school because she knows that when she is done, she gets to read. she will read pretty much anything and everything. Last year she was tested and was reading at well beyond a grade 8 level and her comprehension in grade 2 was at a grade 5 level.

Nicholas is finally just getting into reading. I don't think he is going to enjoy it nearly as much as Liz but you never knwo

Re: Are any of your kids readers?

Both of mine LOVE to read. It was kinda touch and go with Drew for a few years until we started letting him read some of the darker sci-fi stuff we read. He LOVES the stuff. Also got him started on the "Percy and the Olympians" series about 2-3 years ago. The movie of the first book is coming out I think In February, so he's excited about that. Ally and I just finished "The Secret Garden". Now she wants to read "Twilight", which is way beyond he reading level, so we will be reading that series together. I'm lucky that both of mine are big readers.

The two older girls are big readers, and beyond their grade level (so happy because we love to read too...) Karah enjoys being read to, and if I would spend the time with her could probably learn to read. I may work on that this spring if I don't find a job.

My 8 yr old loves to read and I love introducing her to books that I loved at her age. Judy Blume still rocks! lol

I feel so blessed that Aaron loves to read and really excels at it. We have always read to him before bed and still do but now he also reads to us. Perhaps Gracie will be a reader, it's still very early.
