Buying a Wii

Okay, I've made the decision to get my kids (and myself) a Wii. Now what I need to know is what to buy with it to make it worth the price.
What does the console come with and what do I need to purchase to make it possible for two kids to play at once?
What games are the best?
What about Wii fit?

Re: Buying a Wii

It only comes with one remote so you need to buy a second (or a came that comes with a remote - there is a sports one that comes with a remote)

We have Wii fit (honestly I don't see how one would lose weight but its got some fun things for the kids (& me when I'm in the mood)

Other than that we only have DDR 2 & 3 and some six flags game park. Mostly mine just play the Wii sports that came with the Wii.

Re: Buying a Wii

We just got Emily a Wii for her birthday (which was Monday), but my best friend and her husband have one. My kids love Wii Sports Resort (you have to buy a special toggler for it, or you can get the package that has the game and the toggler). My best friend also says Mario Cart is a lot of fun, too.

Re: Buying a Wii

Elaine, there are literally HUNDREDS of games. Drew mostly uses his Rock Band and DJ Hero games. The rest of us use the game that comes with it. I'd like to get Wii Fit, but the kids (i.e. mostly Ally these days) don't take great care of the discs. They are expensive and if they get a few scratches, they are useless. I refuse to buy Ally any more Wii games.

Re: Buying a Wii

Brenda, Blockbuster sells this stuff in a tube that fixes scratches and such on games, dvds and cds-it has worked well for us and was only like $6.
Elaine, you will want to buy another remote and probably a numchuck as well. Wii fit is nice but like someone said, you don't really 'workout' much with it. There are TONS of new ones out right now though.
We bought the kids the new Super Mario and it is AWESOME! Up to four people can play at once too. We also have Rockband and the entire family has fun with it. I highly recommend those two games. We also have Wii sports resort and the boys like it but I haven't checked it out for myself yet.

Thanks for the info ladies! I'm really excited ... I don't think I'm going to tell the kids ... just let them come home and find it.

Re: Buying a Wii

Do you have to have a wheel for the racing games? ... or can they all be played with the regular controller?
I get so confused by all the stuff you can buy for them.

Re: Buying a Wii

You do not have to have the wheel. We have 4 controllers and just 1 wheel but never end up using it really. It just goes over a regular controller to give the feel of a steering wheel.
We love Mario Kart, Mario Party 8, Guitar Hero, the new Mario (my fave!), Wii fit, wii active, Toy Story, wii play and wii sports. I think we have about 40 games but those are our faves.
We use the nunchucks often so you will probably need to get some of those. The back of the game boxes will show what is needed.

Re: Buying a Wii

We have the Wii.....I have the Wii fit, upgraded to a wii fit plus which is a lot of fun. I have the wii active too which i dont' use as much. We also have the dance dance revolution 3, which the kids and I both enjoy, and it gives you a good work out.

We have Wii resorts, and Wii play which the kids play a lot of too
