Is 4 too young for Build-a-Bear?

Gracie has asked to go to Build-a-Bear for her 4th birthday. She got the idea from the kids at her daycare (a few years older than her) who are crazy about the place.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with the store and younger children (we would be taking a friend). I'm afraid it's going to be too overwhelming or that she won't understand the process and it could just become a mess. Are the staff used to dealing with younger kids? I know Haley was 6 or 7 when she went and I assume that is the usual age for the store.

I would have to say this place is way over priced for what you get. They are sorted by size and the bigger more expensive for the animal and clothing. My suggestion for you is tell her the little ones are for the little kids and bigger ones for the bigger kids to avoid over spending. They should be able to work with her and interact with her just like a 6 or 7 year old. I'm not a fan of this place!

agree with Karen here. I took the girls when Peyton was little so I wanna say Katie was 2 or 3. She understood - but they don't understand the costs behind it etc. SO if you stick to you acn build this size animal and get one outfit etc you should be ok.

I'm going to let them pick their animal (anywhere from $10 - $22 I think and I'm pretty certain that Gracie wants the $22 i-carly bear) and one outfit. I remember how expensive it can get BUT this is going to be in place of a party and will count as her big present. So, if it's what she wants...

I'm just hoping the girls understand the process and don't just run amuck in the store.

I would be a little worried as well. Is it a party? How much time is important if it's a party as well. Good luck!

Re: Is 4 too young for Build-a-Bear?

Emily got her first Build-A-Bear at 3 and she did fine with the whole process. She was very into it, picked EVERY single thing out herself, and loved it. She even picked the name out herself. We have done several Build-A-Bears--when she was 3 until she was 5--and that's been our experience every time. The staff have always been helpful and always have done a great job with her.
If you are concerned about Brenna and her friend getting too distracted, why don't you try taking them on a weekday morning when there are considerably less people there, so that there will be fewer distractions and they can have more individual attention, etc.

Re: Is 4 too young for Build-a-Bear?

Thanks for the advice Tammy!!

It's not a party Karen. You CAN schedule parties at the store but there is a minimum 6 guests. There is no way I could afford that OR handle 6 kids at this age.
So, we are just going to go out to eat and then to build-a-bear ... or vice verse ... I haven't thought it all through yet.

Build-a-Bear is a field trip for Kindergartners at Aaron's school and it is a really big hit. I think they got a basic bear for $10. I bought it some clothes on eBay.

That's what I'm thinking Pam ... that IF the build-a-bear becomes a hit (a regularly played with toy), I'll buy some extras for it on ebay.

They do seem to be very high quality bears. Stuffed animals in general are kind of expensive. At least this one looks nice and seems sturdy. I thought it was a pretty good deal.

And Gracie is still at an age where her bears are important to her.
