Weaning and won't take formula

Well, Parker is slowly weaning down his daytime feedings (not even CLOSE to weaning off those nighttime feedings though-lol) and he eats baby food 3x a day but he absolutely refuses formula. I gave up pumping some time ago because I just didn't have the time for it. I have tried giving him formula several times and we have even gone as far as adding chocolate syrup to make it more appealing (I know, I know-good parenting eh? LOL) but he will have nothing to do with it. What he WILL drink is Pediasure. I try to only give him a couple of bottles of it a day because it has 18g of sugar and the label says for ages 2 and up and I have not discussed it with his Pediatrician as of yet. Do you think that the Pediasure is bad for him or do you have any suggestions as to something else to use? I don't dare give him whole milk yet since he has had so many tummy troubles in the past.
Thanks!

Have you tried rice milk? I am allergic to dairy and soy can be harsh, but rice milk is always fine for me. You can get it at Walmart.

Re: Weaning and won't take formula

As just a drink, I'd think rice milk would be fine for your baby. However, it contains much less fat, protein, and calcium than formula or milk so as a source of nutrition it's not the best choice.

Pediasure on the other hand is higher in fat, protein, and calcium that milk so while it is quite nutritious, it can lead to weight gain if used in excess. It's also much sweeter than the alternatives and can make it hard to get a young child to accept anything not as sweet afterwards.

Have you tried watering his pediasure down a little? Try adding small amounts of water at a time (so he doesn't reject it right away) until you eventually reach a 50/50 mixture of Pediasure and water.

Thanks girls.
Yeah, I was wondering what the nutritional benefits of the rice milk were.
I had thought about diluting the pediasure but the bottle says not to add water but that is probably just their way of making more $$ Thanks for the ideas ladies!
