Smelly scalp

My kids have smelly hair. I am still not sure it is not from improper hair washing, so I am going to wash and rinse their hair myself for a week to see if the smell goes away. I have been reading up on this and apparently, it can be caused by a fungal infection on the scalp. Before I dive into medicated shampoos and rinses, I am going to see if my washing their hair with my oatmeal shampoo works. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Smelly scalp

no, never. I would try some dandraff (sp) shampoo and see if that helps as well. Good luck!

That will be my next step, if my oatmeal shampoo doesn't work.

Re: Smelly scalp

Ally's has been known to get smelly, even tho it "looks" clean and shiny. I think she sweats when sleeping, so we have been washing more often and that seems to be correcting the problem. Of course, she has been washng her own hair for almost a year and the problem didn't occur until then. I really think alot of it has to do with her not getting ALL the shampoo or conditioner our and then her hair attracts dirt, which makes her hair smell bad. It has been worse when she has been out in the heat or being physical (even slightly). Washing 4-5 times a week instead of 2-3 times has helped alot. I never had this problem with Drew, who has much drier hair. Ally's is looking more and more like it may be oiler, like her dad]s (while Drew's is dry like mine). Just a thought.
