ADHD update part 2

Okay so you all know I went to the social worker for the county.

She wanted, psychosexual evulation & supervised play for him for any children under the age of 12 for 12 months. Continuing to see the counciler and the psycoligist for the adhd. Really I am thinking this is overkiill and if anything they are going to warp him more. I am sitting here bawling...

Our family doctor just got done talking to Randy and think this is crazy because he is 8. They both think we should get a lawyer and fight this.

Now there isn't a tharapist that handles psychosexual evaluations so the dodge county social worker want us to go to Madison to see a special doctor that handles this.

TO me this seems a bit overboard. I guess I should call and talk to brenda. He is 8. Isn't this going to put ideas in his head?

WOW! That seems a bit extreme for a first time thing... I don't know much about it, but I would think it would be upsetting etc.

I also have to agree that this is overkill ... He's an 8 yr. old boy for Christ's sake! 8 yr. old boys find nothing funnier or more fascinating than penises and farts. Hell, the kids at the daycare just went through a stage where mooning eachother was hysterical ... maybe because nakedness (is that even a word?) is taboo? ... I don't really know but I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that every one of them is on the verge of becoming a sexual predator.
Talk to Trey. Explain to him that what he did was inappropriate and move on!

Re: ADHD update part 2

OK, this is just ridiculous! I can see where they might be concerned but he has had ONE episode that might be construed as sexual in nature. But really, I just think he's being an 8yo boy.

Jannie, is there any way you guys can take him to see an outside therapist? You know, get your own outside opinion? Seems to me they are taking this WAY too far! And yes, in my opinion the only thing this will do is put ideas into his head. We had CPS (child protection services) called on us by Drew's school once because he wrote "boy toy" on the crotch on his pants. Afraid he would get in trouble, he told them his sister wrote it (she was in 1st grade at the time) All hell broke loose, but we lucked out with the social worker who was able to see thru the bull sh!t and realize he was being a dumb 13yo.

I would definitely fight it if you can. You might try calling the school district and asking for a copy of their rules / procedures for this types of thing. Seems to me they are taking it much too far. Also, ask social services for their procedures, as well. Could be you have an over zealous social worker. Talk to a supervisor. You don't have to give your name (the call can be anonymous). Check for websites for the school district, county and whoever else is involved and find out for yourself what their policies really are. As his parent, you have every right to know what they are basing their decisions on. As far as their policies, they will fall under the Freedom of Information Act and anyone should be able to access them.

Document EVERYTHING; who you talk to, date and time, what each of you said, etc. If there is any correspondence, make sure to copy it to ALL relevant parties, including your pediatrician (have him put this info in to Trey's medical file - this makes it so that if you have to retrieve it, only you or Randy can ask for copies.)

I'm going to be at my mom's longer than planned (I'll post about that later), but I should be home sometime Saturday. Feel free to give me a call, tho. You have my cell number. If you need it again, Pm me and I'll send it to you.

Re: ADHD update part 2

When he was 3 my daughter caught him in the closet with my niece playing "doggie", I was so upset and told the teacher that if Brittany said anything about it or was upset that was the reason why. The teacher had to report it and we got hawled into social service. At that time I cried and said this would scare him for life. (just found out that they never called my SIL or niece in to question them.) They said no you are taking care of it now and this wont be a problem.

When he was going into 1st grade over the summer at summer school trey was skipping out and playing in the bathrooms and a boy and him were goofing around and that boy kissed Treys private parts. The other family was called into social services.

This year with the other boys at school Trey was caught peeking in on stalls in the boys room.

The school police officer was called when Trey was in science class and they were discussing matter. Trey said his butt was matter and his poop was matter. They were trying to scare him into being good.

Then this episode on the last friday of school.

This is all seeming overwhelming. I want him to get counciling for the ADHD with impulsive tendencies. I have always stressed that his body is a temple of God and he doesn't touch anyones body and no one touches his. Since he was little. He has made bad choices. Now all hell is breaking loose.

This evaluation just seems ridiculous. Randy is now coming with me to all appointments. He said our family practitioner said we should get a lawyer. I dont want to get in trouble with the system. I dont want this to follow him for the rest of his life (like being a registered sex offender) He really is a good kid. I dont want them to put things in his head either.

Re: ADHD update part 2

Jannie, you HAVE to take him to an outside specialist and get another opinion. If you can find someone who also specializes in ADHD, so much the better - 2 birds, 1 stone. Most of this is sounding to me like typical boy behavior. But if it isn't, then he needs to see a therapist to learn boundaries. There are conditions where people have trouble learning this and treating it can be as simple as repetitive reminders of appropriate behavior. But with social services involved, I would have him see someone ASAP. Get another opinion, becasue if you don't, then you have no idea what your options are except what THEY choose to tell you. I will try to call you this week.

Re: ADHD update part 2

Thats what we think too.

When the principal said that he was being expelled I sought out counciling for him. We are seeing this Mr. Simcock and he is send us to a second opinion to a psychologist on the 17th, that will be for drugs with the ADHD. Then there is this social worker with the county we live in and she is making us see the psycho therapist in Madison.

Randy has decided to come to all these meetings now with me. Thank God. Our Doctor thinks we should get a lawyer. I will ask the dr. Simcock today. Maybe we just need to get into the psychologist sooner to get the social worker off.
