A weird fever...

Maddie woke up yesterday and was really hot so I stripped her down when I changed her and let her stay like that for a bit. I also gave her tylenol. Well ever since she has been hot off and on but only on her head. And by hot I mean not just a little warm, but HOT! And only on her head. And she has been more fussy than she usually is. Bad enough that we can not put her down and Court and I are taking turns holding her. She seemed better this morning and so we all went swimming. She and I were sitting in the water and she felt normal temperature wise but she was shivering...and it was about 100 degrees here!

I don't know what is going on and if I should be worried or not. She is getting teeth and I don't know if that is it or not. Our insurance is not switched over here yet and while I know I can use the ER I am not sure about just a sick baby visit.

I'd like to say it's probably just teeth, Meagan, but I really have no idea. Sydney was the exact same way today, really hot and unusually fussy, her little cheeks were bright red and she was gnawing on her hands.
I would definitely keep an eye on Maddie, maybe it might be the flu or something. If it gets any worse I would start to consider a trip to the ER.

Have you tried taking her temp? I know that teethign can cause a slight fever.....keep your eye on her though an dif she gts too bad then I would take her in....its better to be safe than sorry

I agree with teething...but it could also be the change in altitude, or the change in barometric pressure, or the change in humidity. Or it could be allergies. NC has a different cariety of things growing and blooming than what she is used to.

Ok I am a really bad mommy cause I know we have a thermomter around here somewhere I just haven't found it yet. It is on my list of things to buy today at the store.

Shona I had wondered about climate change since we are new to this area. But I didn't know if that was something that happened or not. I hate to take her to the doctor, drag Gavin along, wait forever and find out that it is just a virus and to give her some tylenol.

Sounds like teething. That is the way Ally gets everytime she gets a new tooth - her head feels almost like it is on fire, but the rest of her is fine. Luckily I can always tell because she drools excessivesly when she teethes. If it doesn't clear up soon, take her to the ER. Better safe than sorry!

Also, we can only let Ally stay in the pool for 20 to 30 minutes. Even thought the temp has been in the upper 80's to low 90's here for weeks, the water is still a little too cool for her to stay in long. Maybe that is why Maddie started shivering. Just a thought.

Hey Meagan, I was thinking last night, what about a possible ear infection?? You said that you had been at the beach, maybe with swimming or with the breeze (that usually goes along with the beach) maybe that bothered her ears.

I'm still thinking teeth though. Sydney is acting the exact same way and then was up every 2 hours last night. Hope your night was better.

Kale turns real red in the cheeks when he is teething bad. But remember, that if the fever is over 101.0 ~ it is not teething!! When it goes over 101 is is usually a virus or something.

Hope she is better soon!!

Well I think it is a virus or teething. She had a whole body fever yesterday and was really miserable. But so far today it is just her head. And she is chewing on her fingers where the teeth are coming in so I think that it is really her teeth. She is eating and drinking fine and she has no other symptoms..no runny nose, no cough. Gosh don't you wish you could just KNOW what is going on and not have to worry? I hate it when the kids are sick!

I wondered about an ear infection Meagan. Well, I'm glad that you finally figured out what was bothering her. Did you end up taking her to see the Dr.??

I hope she is feeling a bit better today. The antibiotics usually kick in with kids pretty quickly
