What's on the menu for Thanksgiving this year?

An item on the news just made me wonder what you are making for Thanksgiving dinner.  They are saying turkey prices are up by 20%!  So anyone else starting to think about this dinner besides me?

Tessa has requested Duck... but I have no clue or desire to cook one. :)


I think we are going to do cornish hens this year.  Been several years since we had them, and they are still nice and cheap at the commissary.  We may have two extra for dinner if Cherie can find the gas and hotel money to come. So...

 

Brined Cornish Hens

Apple Nut Stuffing of some sort 

Mashed Potatoes (debating sweet or regular)

Broccoli in some form or another (girls favorite Veggie)

Veggie of Tessa's choosing (she isn't a fan of the broccoli unless I add cheese)

Cranberry Sauce

Hot Rolls

 

Pumpkin Pie (Jim will have a fit if I don't make one)

Something else... thinking carrot cake but not sure

I still plan on baking a turkey.  I plan on fixing green beans and mashed potatoes with it and maybe a waldorf salad.  I normally don't stuff the turkey but since my brother will be here maybe I'll have him stuff it if he wants to.  (He can cook so it will be nice to have some help this Thanksgiving :)  ).  I'll probably make a pumpkin pie and maybe an apple pie too since Steve doesn't care for pumpkin pie.

Since we are moving around this time, I am thinking - eat out.  LOL!

I hear you on that Lenora... I say let your family feed you!  Or will you not be in KS yet.

 

Tessa just put in a request for scalloped potato so I think I'm going that route, and doing my butternut squash for the other vegetable.  

Glad I have it figured out, now just to figure out who is eating here so I know how much food to make. :)  Tessa wants to invite the whole family, I'm thinking NO.  I have tests at school every week till the one right after thanksgiving.

I never cook on Thanksgiving :teeth: We just run crazy from one family to the next-LOL John and I split the major holidays to be fair and now we also have added Jim's family to the mix so we definitely get plenty of food on Thanksgiving.

I'm with Krista on this one!

 

BUT I have my family over for Katie's birthday the day after & in years past I did a traditional tday dinner. This year though I'm making BBQ Beef , potatoes & broccolli. W/ birthday cake for desert!

Karen, I think that's a great idea :)

 

Krista... that sounds nice, but I get tired of running.  We went to Iowa to my brother's last year for Thanksgiving and then Jim's parents for Christmas.  I'm leaning towards staying home for both this year.  They can come visit us if they want a holiday with us... That may change though.

We normally go to Rick's parents and just bring some kind of side dish (MIL usually asks me to make broccoli, rice & cheese cassarole cause everyone likes it so much).  Not sure with all the bickering going on in his family and his dad being so sick this year if we are even going to go.  We were planning on leaving Thursday night to camp at RenFair with the kids.  We may just leave early and have Tday dinner in camp.

So I had to revamp the menu a bit (big surprise)... But I'm ready and finalized now.  The grocery list is set, the turkey is thawing... Monday I will make my final grocery run

 

Spinach Dip, Cranberry Chutney on Cheese (some on brie and some on cream cheese), Brined Turkey, Apple Raisin Stuffing, Scalloped Potatos, Broccoli, Roasted veggies (brussel sprouts, parsnips, carrots, sweet potatos), Rolls.   Jim's Mom is bringing Deviled eggs, Corn Casserole (no idea what's in this... but in Jim's family this is a required holiday dish), and the pies.  I'm debating making some chocolate pudding for the kids but not sure.

 

Ah well time to hop in the shower, and get on with my day.  Happy to have gotten the list done but will not go to the store on the weekend.

Stuffing (Chad's grandmom is making this)

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy

Green Bean Casserole (Chad's mom is making this)

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Deviled eggs

Rolls

and various pies and deserts (brought by different people)

We have tenatively moved the Thanksgiving dinner to my SIL's. Because of FIL's surgery this Monday, MIL is not going to be in any shape to cook for everyone while he is in the hospital.  So we have split everything up.  I am making broccoli/rice/cheese cassarole, deviled eggs and succotash (lima beans and corn). Rick's brother, Scott, and his wife will do the turkery and a fruit salad.  Wendy (younger sis) will do the stuffing, candied yams and baked mac n cheese. Brittany (neice) is buying the ham, but I will cook it.  She will make mashed potatoes and green beans w/ new potatoes.  Her mom (Rick's older sis, Cindy) doesn't cook.  Period.  So I assigned her to buy  desserts, plates ice and beverages.  LOL!  Once the food is ready, we will take plates to the hospital for MIL and FIL (of they will let him have any of it.) 

 

Does anyone else see a real carb bonanza in this menu?  They eat this way at every holiday.  Gawd!  No wonder we are all overweight! :)
