Bottle Cap Necklaces

Has anyone made these?  They seem simple enough and like something I could make & sell at conventions.

I've got a pretty good general idea of how to do it and what is needed but would really like to talk to someone who's done it before.

No, I haven't.  Sounds like fun.

... and is it any harder than it looks?  How do you punch the hole to run the jump ring through the cap?  Should I buy pieces seperately or buy a starter kit?  Is epoxy better than the clear stickers?  I don't want to waste money if I realize a different method is better.

I use ET lite to seal my caps. I punch my hols with a drill bit and a small hand drill. I don't really know what you mean by buying a kit.  Some people use resin drops that just stick on to the image.  Its going to come down to how much you want to play & how patient you are.

That sounds a really cool idea Elaine. Can't wait to see them get done. I think clear stickers will be ok though.

I'm assuming that the resin drops are the "stickers" I was talking about ... just a 1in clear plastic bubble that sticks over the image.  While that seems easier, I like the look of the liquid sealant better.  Also, since I'd like to do some with more of a 3D effect, that is probably the route I'm going to go.

Hmmm ... I don't have a hand drill so I'm thinking to start, I'll have to buy one of the kits on ebay that offer the pre-made necklaces and all you do is decorate them ... if I'm really enjoying making them, I'll invest in more tools.

Go for it Elaine. Just don't forget to post some photos of necklaces when they're done. I'm kinda excited about it. Best of lucks.

Have fun! I don't do anything small.... I bought 550 caps last spring and went gung ho.  I know you can buy the caps with hols pre drilled too. So thats an option.

Its fun. Not something I'll do all the time. But it was a what the heck I wanna do some too moment.

Here is another option for you.  At Ally's last big school function, they had a lady who makes magnets out of bottle caps.  You still put the pic on the front, then just glue a magnet on the back.  She sold them 3 for $10.  I got 3 as stocking stuffers and everyone loves them.  She said they were super easy to make.

Thanks!  My intention is actually to do some necklaces, keychains, and magnets.  I'm kinda bummed about the process right now  ... I'm a "when I want to do something, I want to do it NOW" kinda person ... but fate is screwing with me.  I was supposed to have a little extra money with this next paycheck and then I ended up losing some hours at the store with all this snow.  :(  I know it will still happen ... tax money is coming in plenty of time for me to do it before the conventions ... BUT, I wanted to do it NOW!!

I have some bottle caps & such I can send you (free of charge I just want them out of my house) Not alot and I'm not sure of the colors. But I'm happy to send them and whatever I have left for necklaces & key chain etc your way if you want. Then you just have to supply the picture/sticker & resin.
