I'm joining a gym!

Today!  I'm really excited.  I've never had a gym membership before but I and a couple girls at work really want to start working and we all figured we will NOT do it on our own so we are going to join a gym and get together 3X a week ... The plan is Mon. Wed. & Sat. mornings at 8:30 ... Anything more we choose to do will be on our own as our work schedules don't allow more "together" time than that.

We're going down at 2:00 today to pay our fees and just look around at what it has to offer.  We can't work out today because one of the girls and I will have to go back to work but still ... Did I mention I'm excited?!?

My goals are fairly simple ... get in shape!  I'm tired of having flabby thighs!

Good for you! When I was going to the gym I looked awesome, if I do say so myself! :o)

I was practicly addicted and loved it. I had to stop going when I started working full time in 2006, there was just no time to go because I didn't want to spend any more time away from the twins. If I would have continued to go, I would only be with them for about 2 hours a day before it was bed time. When they get old enough to join and we can work out together, I'm going to go back. I really miss it and can't wait!

I LOVED my 'me' time at the gym! I especially loved the classes. I hope you have a great time Elaine.

Yea, I wouldn't give up my time with my kids either Heather ... my work day is odd hours (10:00 - 7:00) so I only have a few hours with them every evening.  BUT because of that time between the bus and me needing to be at work, I have time to do something for me without interfering in family time.

YAY Good for you.  I lost 20 pounds when I belonged to the gym.  Now I just don't have time :-(

I love going to the gym.... This is the first year I have gone somewhat regularly because all the girls are in school.  :)  Enjoy!

None of the gyms out here have daycare for children under age 2 or else my butt would so be there. It is very irritating that no one provides care for little ones.

Our local gym doesn't provide any care at all ... but this is a teeny gym in a teeny town ... I would have assumed you'd be able to find something  where you are Krista ... that just sucks. :(

My YMCA provided care for infants up to age 8.  I left Kel in it a few times but I generally went when she had gymnastics.

Have fun!  I need to start working out again, but I've been too busy and too tired.

Yeah, when we lived in LSL we had a membership to the Y and they accepted infants. Unfortunately, we now live in a different county and they don't have an YMCA out here. :( The Y was great but was even a little far when we lived within the city limits. Now it would be about an 40min drive. :( I'm just glad that their are some gyms out here-we kinda live in the boonies now-LOL I imagine this spring I will start walking again and then by fall PJ will be old enough to go to the gym daycare. It is just disappointing since I would really love to go now and have the time. Ah well. ;)

Elaine, you are going to LOVE it! Does your new gym offer classes like Zumba, Pilates and boxing?

I would love to do something like that but without someone to go with me I so would not drag my butt. I have a little gym almost across teh street form DQ but with no real Daddy care going isn't happening. I just walk with the kids in teh summer. I may jog this year & let Lyssie ride her bike & the little ones drive the power wheels. I know we are definilty taking longer walks though.

I can't afford a gym.  Want to start walking once the weather gets nice again.  Elaine, good idea to have friends go w/ you.  You can keep each other motivated,

So far we are really enjoying it ... we've started every session with 20 mins on the treadmill and then just kinda played around on the machines deciding what we like ... so far I think my favorites are the forward row and the lat. pull down ... REALLY wanting to try the leg press BUT someone with poor gym etiquet always leaves it loaded down with weights. :(

@ Krista - the only classes the gym offers are aerobics in the evenings ... not sure how I feel about aerobics.

Seems like you are really having so much fun with your gym time Elaine. I don't have a lot of time for that kind of stuff anymore so I just jog once in while when I get the chance. And about your concern; just ask for any guys you can find there in the gym to take out the other weights in the leg press for you. They'll be happy to do that.

You really take the good step as you mention that you join the gym. In this way you can easily be fit and the gym exercise will also be good for the growth of your body and height.
