It's interesting that children stop bedwetting about the same time their parents did.  I guess I don't need to stress out about dd wetting the bed.  I don't remember being a bed wetter, but my sister was.  Dd is only four and has dry nights several nights a week.

I wet the bed until I was 9, my brother until he was almost 12, but our older sis never did.  In our case, we were such deep sleepers that we simply didn't wake up.  My mom started waking us every night about midnight and made us go to the bathroom.  To this day, I still wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom.  My mom never had this problem and neither did the sperm donor as far as we know.  I think each kid has different reasons why they do this.

They have something called the Wee Alarm or the bed wetting alarm.  You put it in the child's underwear or pjs and it wakes them up when they start to pee.  They say these are the most effective tool in stopping bed wetting.  However, they cost like $50, so I am going with positive reinforcement which is free.  They say the wee alarm takes on average 6 weeks until a child completely stops bedwetting.  It works right away for some children, but they say most methods take a few weeks or months to work.

I was a bedwetter and so was my son.  In both instances we were given a prescription from our family doctor and wala I stopped and my son stopped.  We were both over the age of five.
