I was in the military. I don't see the awkwardness. Besides, he said his religion was the problem, not feeling awkward. If he wants to bow out due to his religion, that's fine. No one stopped him. I'm not for or against his choices. They were his to make and he made them. I think it was a bit fool hardly to dump his scholarship chances over this, but that was his decision. He may have thrown away a scholarship at a state university, but I'm sure a religious college in line with his choices will be happy to pick him up. Because he didn't perform though, the state universities will probably bypass him in favor of those who did wrestle. They care about performance - not religion.
