Parents keep child’s gender under wraps

When many couples have a baby, they send out an email to family and friends that fills them in on the key details: name, gender, birth weight, that sort of thing. (You know the drill: "Both Mom and little Ethan are doing great!")

But the email sent recently by Kathy Witterick and David Stocker of Toronto, Canada to announce the birth of their baby, Storm, was missing one important piece of information. "We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now--a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place? ...)," it said.

Okay, give the kid an unconventional name and then refuse to tell people what sex he or she is.  I think I'll let other weigh in on this first.

"Your goal as a parent is do everything in your power to raise a happy, healthy, well-adjusted child that will grow up to be kind, independent, successful, and make a positive difference in the world. Turning your child into your own "tribute to freedom and choice" is unbelievably self-serving. Storm deserves to be loved for everything he or she is, not to be a pawn in the messed-up agenda of his/her parents."

That's a comment from one of yahoo users. And I say, I have the same standing. tsk3.poor little thing.

I don't believe in doing social or psychological experiments on children.  It's either some type of experiment or a desperate attempt to get their own reality tv show and strike it rich off their messed up kids.  I am guessing it is the later rather than the former since they felt the need to go to the media.  I wonder if they would be as supportive if their little boys wanted crew cuts and to play hockey as they are of the dresses.  Somehow I think not.

I agree with you. And I also think those parents were just calling out media's attention. I can see zero benefit from doing this kind of experiment. For heaven's sake, why do we have parents with this kind of thinking???

I guess the Gosselins, Octomom and the Duggar family have sewed up the have so many children they don't know what to do media racket, now parents have to come up with some new scheme to get rich quick off their kids.  rolleyes.gif

This issue has been discussed in a dad forum too (actually, I was the one who posted the link you posted here) and its been the most discussed topic lately there. Pretty much I got a hundred very violent reactions. Everyone is just convinced how twisted those parents are for planning such an experiment on their children.

Someone posted it on my atheist forum too and a lot of people thought it was great.  Most of these people don't have kids.  People without kids always have a million great ideas for those of us with kids.  Except for one person, all the people with kids thought this was a horrible idea.  Even if your child is gay, he or she most likely still identifies themselves as male or female.

Now I really wonder how these kids will react once they find out what their parents did to them. And even if I am an atheist, I will still be a critic to this.

I remember a couple whom a friend of mine met on an airport. He said they told him they keep like a dozen of dogs. And they decided to raise dogs instead of real kids. "Dogs don't talk back and are cheaper", this is what they told him...we are living in a crazy world!

Only one parent thought this was a cool idea.  No other parent did.  There's always one no matter what group you're in.
