Birth control debates

Since I am about the only member still active, I realize this may be just a personal rant, but I am sick to death of this birth control debate.  Why are we debating this in 2012 when we have so many other issues which are more important?  Why in the world are people so concerned about insurance paying for birth control pills and other forms of bc?

First of all, no one can have it all ways.  Almost everyone loves sex.  However, unprotected sex leads to babies and disease.  Both are much more expensive than bc.  Some people complain heartily about Medicaid, welfare, SSDI, food stamps, taxes for public schools - any kid related tax.  Others complain that they should not even have to see a child in a public place, let alone have to actually share a restaurant or an airplane with one.  Obviously, there are a lot of people in our country who hate any expense or inconvenience due to children.

Hello morons!  Women without access to bc will have children.  Just telling them to use rythym or go without sex won't work.  This was a standard method of bc for millions of years and everyone knows how that went - 7 billion people on this earth and counting.  Obviously, some people are watching the Dugars or Kate Gosselin and deciding this is what is best for all women.  Not all of us want 18 children.  Men sure don't plan to do without sex, so unless all men decide to go gay after they have all the children they want, bc for the man or the woman is going to be part of the equation.

Is it a good idea for every straight American woman to have all the children her body can physically handle?  (Lesbians are, by nature, exempt.)  And who will care for all these unwanted children, plently of whom may have serious physical problems due to being unwanted?  Are we going to build massive orphanages for all these kids?  As a historian and someone whose taken a psychology class or two, orphanages are not a good place to grow up.  This is not a good way to raise children in any society.  Besides we got away from poor houses and orphanages, why would anyone in their right mind want to go back to the bad old days?  Oh yes, the people coming up with these "great" ideas are rich, white men who have no intention of paying for any of this.  Perhaps, their idea is to bring back child labor and all these unwanted children can make hood ornaments for Jaguars, Bentleys and Ferraris.

I am angry about this on so many levels, I can't write anymore.  I'll post some articles that every woman should read in headlines.  I really believe some of these idiots want to dictate exactly how people should believe in god, eat, live and women should defintely head back to the bedroom and the kitchen.

Oh yeah.  There are plenty of articles out there about politicians who want any form of birth control that blocks implantation (IE the day after pill and the uber popular IUD), because once potenially fertilized, they believe the egg is a full human being.  They are also against several types of bc pills because they also prevent fertilization and implantation.  IMO, the majority of these folks are on the extreme side of the Catholic church and unmarried, conservative male politicians.  This issue was hot a couple of months ago and has since faded out of the news.

It all stemmed from employees of the Catholic church being covered for bc services, because the Catholic church is officially against bc.  Not that the church would have to pay for or provide bc services at their hospitals, but their insurance provider would have to include these services.  There was a huge debate on  whether or not insurance companies should have to cover bc if they did not believe in bc.  For some reason, it dropped right out of the news.  If insurance companies could refuse to cover any service they said was against their religion, you'd find their religion didn't cover anything, because every illness or injury would be against their religion.  Hopefully, smarter heads will prevail on this issue, because we could all soon find that everything from ingrown toenails to cancer were against someone's religion.

I am Catholic.  I believe in birth control.  I do not believe in a woman's choice when it comes to killing her unborn baby.  I also do not believe that a religious organization should be forced to PAY to cover something for their employees' that is against their beliefs.  There are other forms of birth control that can be bought over the counter or their employees' can pay out of pocket for prescription birth control.  Or they can look for a job at a company where their birth control is covered.  As for me.  Again, I believe in birth control but currently work at a company that does not provide employee insurance.  If the Catholic Church should be forced to pay for their employees' birth control, should mine as well?

As for what insurance companies will and will not cover, that's been going on for years.  With our new health system, I believe it's only going to get worse.  So healthy debate is a good thing because it gets the pros and cons out there, and hopefully help us make better decisions for ourselves in our personal lives and at the voter's box.
