Halloween just around the corner

Halloween is only like 3 months away. I am looking for ideas for costumes for my kids, i am going to handmake them since money is tight this year. I was thinking of making them something like one of these http://www.windycitynovelties.com/2459c/kids-favorite-costumes.htmlBut i wonder if it will cost me more to make it by hand. What do you all think?

I have made almost all my family's Halloween costumes.  I think they cost about the same as store bought unless you buy the super cheap kinds.  However, I think they look better than any store bought costume.  Also, my family likes to pick a theme and we all go as a character in the theme.  Last year, we went as the Wizard of Oz with The WWW, Toto, Dorothy and the Scarecrow.  This year, we've been talking about going as Alice in Wonderland, but no one wants to be Alice and both girls want to be the chestercat.  If saving money is the goal, then it probably costs more to about the same as a middle of the road costume.  However, homemade costumes usually look more expensive than they are.  Also, adult costumes can be used year after year.

We are thinking about Alice this year too! We just started talking about it - so we'll see how far it gets. We didn't do anything last year because we weren't home. :-(

We changed our theme to the Wild West.  Dh and Cate are going as cowboys/gunslingers.  I'm going as a traditional prairie woman and Cara wants to go as a dance hall girl. I am a little worried how a five year old dance hall girl will go over, but dh says it will be really cute.  Are you wearing a costume this year, Karen?

I don't do costumes. ;-) although if the theme was right maybe I would. I have more fun with the kids

Since dh never got to trick or treat or even celebrate Halloween as a child, this is a tradition he started.  I think he enjoys it as much as the kids.
