Do you let your children play in the rain?

I remember as a child(around nine or so) that when it would rain, I would put on my raincoat and my jelly shoes(if it wasn't too cold) and go walk in the rain. I loved walking in the puddles at the side of the road. I have not let my kids do this just b/c I am afraid they will get sick. Maybe w/ age I have become an old fuddy duddy. LOL. What do you think? Would you let your children do this?

I was never allowed to play in the rain. When it was done raining I was allowed to go out and play in the puddles. I loved playing outside after it has rained.

I guess I'm a fuddy duddy too...no playing in the rain here either. When one gets sick in our house, it is a chain reaction that lasts 2 weeks...not fun. It is also COLD and rainy so, perhaps I'd feel different if it were WARM...

I guess I'm the different one here because sometimes during the summer we get the rain that is like a sheet of water and the kids love going out to play in it. Of course I don't let them play in the rain if it is cold but they love the few times that they get to play in the rain. We just open the garage and they run in and out.

I will probably be mean and say that my son can't play in the rain but my husband being a guy will take Christian out in the rain. He will say it won't hurt him. I will be the first to admit when we were stationed in Mississippi the only time it was even kind of cool was when it rained so I would go out in it then but you know it probably only got down to 85 degrees if that.

I too love the rain! I'm not sure what I'll do when Austin gets bigger, but I know that in the summer with warm rains and not thunder and so on I will probably let him. I remember my Grandfater letting me take my shirt and shorts off and I'd run around in the rain in just my panties when I was 4 or 5.. boy it was fun to be naked! LOL

I LOVE TO LET MY CHILDREN PLAY IN THE RAIN!!

Tricia,

This is such a special treat for my children.

If it's not too cold, and of course, no lighting or thunder, my kids put on the rain coats and are out the door! I'm a registered nurse, and it's a hugh misconception that simply cold weather can bring on a cold. Your child must contact the cold germs, usually by touching a contaminated object, then rub the eyes, mouth or nose. Simply being out in cold weather will not make them sick. My children are 2, 3, and 5 - all boys. I love it when it rains. They play outside with my husband, and I get a free few minutes!

Think about how much you enjoyed it when you were a kid. I know I always loved it and I still do.

What Fun

One of the fondest memories I have of childhood is playing in the rain with my cousin. It was summertime and we put on old shorts and t-shirts and ran around--tried to swim in puddles--and sang our hearts out.

I can not wait to play in the rain with my children---That is what play clothes are for.

I cant wait to let her play in the rain. I use to love it when I was younger and still do. So I plan on letting her go out in it. I plan on playing in it too.

I think when my daughter gets older if it is not to cold and no thunderstorm and not.

I think when my daughter gets older if it is not to cold and no thunderstorm and not to heavy of rain! I will let my daughter play out in the rain if it is warm outside like in the spring or summer but probably not in the fall or winter months because it is to cold! I also will not let her play in the rain if there is a thunderstorm outside! I will not let my daughter play out in the rain if it is raining to hard outside! I know that my daughter when she gets older will love it when it rains out She will have the propper clothing on but I will also make sure that she has fun and doesn't get sick or hurt in any way! I may even go play in the rain with her !

If it's not cold outside and their is no lightning I would let them play in the rain!

I have pics of my 3 and my friend's daughter and the D's friend playing in a major downpour. As long as there is no lightning and it isn't cold, they can go. They just put on their swimsuits and splash! I love it because they are soooo funny to watch! They baby was about 18 months last time and couldn't keep up when everyone was running around. She slipped, fell on her hiney and slid about 5 feet! She started a new game and everyone enjoyed it alot. (We had some of the fuddy duddies upstairs and in the next building laughing!)

I haven't ever taken Lexi out in the rain but I guess I am just worried about her getting sick. I don't go outside when it is wet either b/c of Devin... I could just see him crawling and getting soaking wet and probably loving it.

Yeah Dominick would probably love it too but i would be a little iffy about it.

Yes, I let Tessa play in the rain... But it's always raining here. But if it's nice out temp wise, we do play in the rain...

If I didn't let my kids play out in the rain I would have to drive them everywhere.
I've always made sure they had really good quality rain gear, and they would play for hours just spashing in our driveway. The preschool Abby goes to insist that the kids have really good ''Muddy Buddies" so they can play outside in the rain.
The kids get more colds and whatnot when they are stuck indoors with other kids.

Good point about the cold Bonnie... that is true

During the summer & spring, we always played in the rain when I was growing up. So, if my kids want to go out and play in the rain during those seasons, they are more than welcome. What's the difference in them swimming in the pool and playing in the rain?

(Didn't read all the comments so sorry if I'm repeating anything).
