what do you teach your children about this day?

That the Americans didn't have anything to do in Nov so they made up thanksgiving

Our kids see it on USA Sitcoms etc and ask about it.

I tell them that the first American settlers nearly died of starvation the first year they were there (and in fact most of them died from either starvation or disease) and that the Amerindians helped them out by bringing food to them, including turkeys. So On the anniversary of that day , Americans give thanks that thanks to neighbourly feelings they didn't all die out.

Too funny Maree!!!!

We try to teach our kids basically the same thing. That we should be thankful or others kindness .. all year round!

We teach them to be thankful for all the things in their lives. We always try to get Drew to list a few things he is thankful for. Since we celebrate Christmas with my parents at Thanksgiving, last Drew piped up that he was thankful for all the presents he got! LOL!
