Rotten pumpkin!!!

OK .. every year it never fails .. our pumpkins become a yucky mush of orange way too soon. Here is a great tip that I'm gonna use this year!!!

Once you've scooped the pumpkin out and are ready to give it a face, swish his insides with a mild bleach solution (2 tbs bleach and 2 cups water). A similar rinse is used by pumpkin farmers to cut down on decay!

I hope it works.

What do you do to keep yours from getting ?

We have already had a mushy pumpkin mess this year. Haley picked one up from a pumpkin patch fieldtrip last week. We put it up on the frideg out of the way untill we could carve it. This morning Michael had to move it to find something else and it was sitting in a puddle of it's own goo. Yuck!

Ours did that last year. We blamed it on being too warm. This year it is a lot cooler so hopefully that makes a difference!

I don't know what my dad used to do to them but I swear we could have them for months and they never rotted!

They do last a lot longer when the weather is cooler! Wendy, I wish I knew what your father did too....I'm going to try this tip Roxanna, thanks!

We always wait to carve them until the day before Halloween so they don't get all yucky. But I know cooler weather helps as well.

I've just always heard to do what Meagan does, not carve them until right before Halloween so they are nice for at least one night. But I have no idea how to keep them looking that way for weeks. I'll have to remember the bleach thing and try it this year.
