The baby backpack or the baby sling? My dh will be using it too. What brand is the most sturdy and easy to keep clean? Thanks.

I have used the backpack a few times never used a sling. I have heard people with slings just rave about them and how wonderful they are. Backpacks are good if you don't mind baby behind you.

I only have a sling. Mine is the NoJo brand. I have used it with both kids. Court has used it too. The sling you can just toss in the washer. It was a little hard to figure out how to use it at first but I can tell you that for Maddie it was a life saver. She wanted to be held all the time and this was the only way I could survive. I used it today and made cookies! I thought I had a picture of it posted but guess not.

I have a pattern to make a sling. I was thinking of getting both since I don't see my dh taking to the sling. I was reading in Dr. Spock how babies cry less when carried frequently and he raves about the slings and backpacks.

They really are for different purposes. A backpack you have to wait until the baby can support its head while a sling you can use earlier. I have never used a sling but we have a backpack that DH has used while we were hiking. I've seen a really neat backpack/stroller combo too.

I hated having a sling. It could have been the sling though.

Den also couldn't get used to a sling and liked a back pack!

I really like the Nojo slings because you can use it for little babies lying down or use it to support toddlers sitting up on your hip.

I also like the baby bjorn infant carrier but it is a front carrier and not good for older babies.

We have a backpack that is only for older babies because it doesn't have any back support. Zach and Michael like using it but it hurts my back. It is made by Gerry.

We have used both. We started using a Baby sling when Michael was a preemie throughout the first year. He had little head control as a developmentally delay baby that we used it until he was about 10 months old.

When Michael had good head control, we began using a "front carrier" by Snugli. Timothy loved using it because he felt closer to Micheal that way. It made it easier for us to enjoy outings like going for walks outside or in the malls. Ours had adjustable straps and we made sure it was not a model that had large legs openings as those that had been recalled in the past. That was one thing we were concerned about since preemies are "smaller than their full term counterparts."

Now that Michael is about 28-29 pounds, he's too heavy to carry like that anymore but I am glad for having the exprience of it all.
