Play pens

We defiantely need a play pen. Steve wants to have the baby upstairs with him sometimes in the studio, but it is not a safe place and there is no way to make it a safe place for baby. Our solution is to get a play pen. I want one that is fairly lightweight, easy to move from room to room and not too difficult to reassemble over and over. What play pen fits this bill? Thanks.

That's something I was thinking about. I would like a playpen that lasts awhile, but his cleared area up there is fairly small. I don't think one of those bigger playpens would fit. We may have to get more than one. One for downstairs (where it can be large) and one for upstairs.

Look at Roxanna's post in "swap meet"...She has one of the good pak-n-plays she wants to sell!!! I was considering it but I was told not to buy one just yet....so maybe someone else is buying one for me.

I have a graco one. Its really heavy though. Its nice, just heavy. pretty easy to take down and move. its got a changing table that hooks onto it. I don't really use it except when we go on trips thats were she sleeps. But she can't stand play pens.

Portable play yards have replaced the old playpens with more features and added convenience necessary for today's families. Most come with carrying cases and all fold up very compactly and are lightweight. They are easy to assemble and disassemble and include features such as bassinets, canopies for shade outdoors, wheels and more.

Here is my review of our Graco portable playpen.

Our Canopy Pack-N-Play comes with a detachable canopy which is ideal for outdoor use. It also includes a storage bad for toys that attaches to one side of the play pen. That makes it easy fgor me to place toys and clothing not being used or worn there.

The play yard folds up and comes with a travel bag. This product can be used for children up to 30 pounds. Once you know what you are doing, setup is easy. It folds up very compactly making it easy to get in the car; however, the mattress pad is a little on the thin side.

Lenora, I have a Graco Pack-N-Play that I got before Drew was born. He's now 8 1/2 and I am using it for Ally.

The pack-n-plays are great. Mine is about 15 pounds, rectangular in shape (I think they all are), came with a matress pad (kinda thin like Sandra said, but I just put a blanket down), a matress pad cover (sorta like a sheet, but padded) and a carrying case. It has been used for 4 kids now (both of mine plus my brothers 2 kids) and it is still holding up well. Once you know how to set it up and take it down, it's easy to do. I have traveled with mine on planes, on a bus and in the car. Works great.

Mine doesn't have all the fancy stuff you can get with them now(bassinett, changing table, etc...) since it was one of the first ones they came out with, but I can't imagine a better buy. They aren't cheap (anywhere between $50-$100), but they are more than worth it.

For the amount of use you will get from it, I would definitely buy one. Not only that, the resale value on them is great. I had someone offer me $30 for mine and it's 8 years old! And if you plan on having more children, you will need it, if only to put one kid in while you deal with the other one! LOL!

We have one also - I use it when we travel. Once you get the hang of setting it up, it's a safe haven for baby. ( Brother has dog that I cannot stand !! and really don't trust.... )

I would recommed a pack and play as well. That is what we have. Maddie actually sleeps in hers in our room. It travels well. We have taken it with us on all or our trips and to the beach. It folds up nicely fo storage etc. But I should warn you that you do not want to have your child spend too much time in a play pen or play yard. And once they reach a certain age..just about when you really need them away from stuff they will resist being in it. At least that has been my experience. My kids have rarely used the pack and play for anything other than sleeping.
