flat-bottomed pine cone (ideally about 1 1/2 to 2 inches diameter)
2 large plastic buttons
red pipe cleaner
orange pipe cleaner
red felt
red, yellow, and orange feathers
glue
small index cards
1. Set the cone on side with its pointed end facing you. This is the front face and chest of the turkey. The back will form the tail feathers.
2. Wind the red pipe cleaner through the "front" of the turkey and twist into a small circle for a head. Glue the buttons as eyes on the red pipe cleaner and use the small strip of red felt to form the comb.
3. Glue the feathers on the back to form a tail.
4. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and wind around middle of cone, top to bottom, and form feet on the bottom by folding the tips forward.
5. On the non-lined side of the index card, write the person's name and add a fall sticker or draw leaves on it. Size the card so that it can be tucked in the front of the turkey between tip of the cone and the feet.
