Our stuffing debate...

OK... With Thanksgiving coming up, it's time for our annual family debate over what to eat with the turkey.

I come from east Texas, and I always had "dressing" which was made with cornbread.

DH's family is all from Pennsylvania and Delaware, and they have "stuffing" that they make with white bread.

What do you have? Do you actually stuff your turkey with it, or do you cook it separately? And what do you call it?

Well, it depends on where I'm going. My grandmother (paternal) always made dressing with cornbread. My other grandmother made Stove Top stuffing. MIL makes stuffing using Pepperidge Farm. Nobody puts it in the turkey.

We always stuff the turkey with stuffing.

Always with the turkey and always whitebread.

But we are going to Memphis this year we will have to see what they are doing.

Here we always have homemade dressing made with white bread. We always bake it separately so we don't call it stuffing because it was never stuffed into the turkey.

We stuff the turkey and bake what doesn't fit. We always made it with whitebread, but I know alot that make it with cornbread (I don't really care for the cornbread stuff). I call it both stuffing and dressing. I tend to say "turkey & dressing" when referring to both and "stuffing" when referring to it alone.

We make stuffing...stuff the turkeyt at my parents and cook some plain pork stuffing, since my bro can't have tirkey. Here, our new tradition is to bake out suffing since we cook our turkey ona jar...no place to stuff it!

We always use white bread for our stuffing and stick it right in the bird

I have never heard of dressing made with white bread! It is always "dressing" and it is ALWAYS made with corn bread! Whether it is in the turkey or not is a personal preference (we always had both). I grew up in Memphis and white bread stuffing was unheard of!!

We don't do Thanksgiving and we don't do the Turkey thing but when we have chicken I make stuffing with white bread and stuff the chicken with it however I always make to much so I cook the rest in the roasting dish with the chicken, I put it on to cook when I put the veges in to roast.

Heck I don't even know what cornbread is lol but if it is made with corn I will never know what it tastes like bc corn hates me with a passion and leaves very soon after entering my body

Here I make dressing with cornbread that os cooked seperately and not in the turkey.

(Dh) Timothy is from Indiana (orginally from Virginia) and his grandma made stuffing with white bread.

funny thing is Timothy likes stove top stuffing and does not like my dressing or Grandma's stuffing!

Oh...its always been cornbread stuffing for us I just can't seem to make it as good as Mom's

I use bread iwth mine...I never heard of doing it wtih cornmeal before

I used to make it with white bread and we called it both dressing and stuffing. I have never stuffed a turkey with it. I was told it was unsafe - that it caused food poisoning. So I've never done it.

It's cornbread here - and Mom always browns some sage sausage and adds it to it. We do both ways - some in turkey most in LARGE roasting pan. MY SIL Rosemary for the last few years has also been bringing some oyster stuffing, cuz her Mom's from NE and that's what they always had!

Neither, I hate stuffing. I make box version but I prefer mashed potatoes.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but when I was growing up(in VA and NC) our family used white bread stuffing. I've never heard of cornbread, but it sounds cool.
