Baby's First Thanksgiving
Delicious Baby Food Recipes
By Elizabeth Geiger
Who says baby has to eat the same old jar baby foods for Thanksgiving? After all, Thanksgiving is that one special time of year when we all splurge at our dinner tables and stuff our mouths with unbelievable amounts of food – most of which are not considered the best for our health.
Instead of buying "Thanksgiving in a jar" baby foods, use these baby food recipes to give your baby a first Thanksgiving he won't forget.
These recipes are intended for babies older than 6 months. For younger babies who are just starting solid foods, use your expressed milk or formula instead of water to make the food taste more familiar.
How's this for a meal?
Turkey and Cranberry Puree
1 slice cooked turkey
1/4 cup canned cranberry sauce
water
Place turkey in a blender or food processor. Blend with water (one tablespoon at a time) so it becomes a smooth liquid. Cranberry sauce will thicken the turkey and water blend. Blend in cranberry sauce to desired consistency. You may need more than 1/4 cup to make it thicker than a puree if you are feeding an older baby.

Baked Acorn Squash
A great "side dish" for your baby's Thanksgiving dinner!
2 small acorn squash
2 tablespoons applesauce
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Cut each squash into halves and scoop out the seeds. Divide the juice and cinnamon among the four halves and cover with aluminum foil. Place in baking dish and bake at 375 degree F for one hour or until tender. Remove the foil and let the squash cool. Scrape the insides of the squash and puree in a blender or food processor. Freeze any unused right away.

Mouth-Watering Pureed Potatoes
A delightful "side dish" for your baby's Thanksgiving dinner!
1 potato
Expressed breast milk, formula or water
Cut the potato into four pieces and boil for 15 minutes or until completely soft. Place soft potato into blender or food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of fluid at a time until you have a smooth puree of potatoes.

Pureed Baked Sweet Potatoes
A delicious "side dish" for your baby's Thanksgiving dinner!
1 small sweet potato
Water
Slice sweet potato into 1-inch thick slices. Over boiling water, steam for 10 minutes or until soft. You should easily be able to stick a fork through one slice. Add warm sweet potato to blender or food processor along with 1 tablespoon of water. Add one tablespoon at a time until you have a smooth puree of sweet potatoes.
