Well, Hailey has now discovered the staircase! The real bad thing about this is that there is no way to put up a gate at the bottom because of the way that they are made. There are not 2 solid walls until you get to the 5th step. I was wondering if any of you had this problem and found any kind of solution. HELP!!!!

I wish I could help you out but I have the same problem. Only our stAir case doesn't have two solid walls at all. it has a rail and t he baby gate will not stablize on it. Luckily, Duncan is very careful when and if he does go up (when he escApes me) and Logan, well, we just have to watch him VERY cArefully. Good luck and let me know if you find a solution

The Steps
If there is no stable banister then iw ould suggest having a few other things around to draw baby's attention away from the steps. eg. favorite toy, a brand new toy ( something with lots of fun big buttons to keep baby's attention for a long time). Or maybe try not to go up the steps whle baby is watching. If he doesn't see you do it he wont be encouraged to doo it himself. You can even try just following him to see where he goes and what he does. Make it a little fun game making sure you stay behind him. Baby's explore a lot and that's good so try not to discourage it. Just find more interesting things for him to explore until you find the time to teach him how to go up the steps the right way.

SOLUTION -- Jen we have the same problem with our stairs, we have a railing on one side BUT Evenflo (I believe that's the co.) makes an expandable soft gate (purple nylon surround with white mesh middle) that has soft rubber capped ends (top & bottom / left & right). We just bought one and it works anywhere! I would highly recommend this gate. I bought it for $34.99 at Babies R Us.

yep!
same prob here!Well, what has been working for me is keeping all Brit's(our daughters' are about 1month apart) toys away from the staircase and keeping 1or more large boot(shoe-boots) boxes on the first step so she can't reach 'em,the stairs. When company comes, just put 'em up.I only use em when Brit is crawlin' around.
