Sydney's FIRST birthday is this coming Thursday! I want to have a party for her and was thinking of having it on the 19th.

I need some great ideas for a 1st birthday party...Who to invite? How many? What sort of theme? What to serve?

I want to do something fun....

What did you do for your litte one's 1st birthday???

Haley's had a big first birthday party with mostly adults who were close friends of the family. Her party was carousel horse themed. We stuck to simple decoration of pink, teal, and yellow streamers and balloons.

Zachary's birthday was party was smaller with just family and a few very close friends. We decorated for his in primary colored balloons and streamers.

I think the best part of each party was that we had a seperate small cake to give to them to eat/play with.

If Sydney has friends in a play group or from a church or something I would invite them but if you don't know any babies I would stick to family and a few friends.

Leah I do not know how cold it is there to have a bubble party but I was just getting ready to post it here in this area. Look for it may it will spark a plan.

Elaine is correct to you do not want to over stimulate them either. Family and some friends with streamers and party hats and maybe moise makers is always fun.

Good luck.

We didn't do a whole lot for Liz's...We had some of our close friends come over, and my mom and step dad flew out but that was it....and I made her a cake. We also enjoyed a bbq....adn that was her bday

For a first birthday you don't want it to be too big and noisy. I would stick to family and close friends. Special cake just for her. And maybe goodie bags if there will be kids there. It's the parents that remember this more than the kids. So don't make too much work for yourself!

I agree, the first is usually more for the adults than the child, but if Sydney has a special interest in something, go with that, otherwise make it easy on yourself!!
Roxanna had a swimming party for Kale.....we had a blast!! He enjoyed it, but we REALLY enjoyed it!
Nicholas didn't have a *theme* just primary colors and a great *adult* cake (carrot cake on top layer and cream cheese on bottom) ( ) then his own cake to destroy!! No children were there, just adults and his sissy! Great memories!

Duncan's was Pooh With a 3D stand up pooh cake. And a separate cake to eat (that one was to play with)

Logan had Veggie Tales, With a 3D Bob the Tomato Cake.. and a separate one to eat.

Ian will have a Bug theme (we call him our little IanBug) We will have a 3D Catapillar. But since the catapillar will be long enough, he will get to play with it's head, and the body will be to eat. You can checkout some of the pictures of the cakes I have done, they are in family photos I think, under birthdays.

And we only have family for their first, but.. that is still over 20 people.

We had a small party for Haley with the family (about eight people in all). I loved it though. We got her an adorable little tiara to wear. We had a Sesame Street party. She had the cake, the table cloth, everything Sesame Street. Even the invites. I bought her a cupcake to devour on her own and make a huge mess and I got her a bouquet of First Birthday Balloons at Party City. That was about it. Nothing fancy or elaborate, but it turned out wonderful. I wish I had a scanner so I could post pictures of her in the tiara with cake everywhere. You should definitely get Sydney one of those.

Those all sounds like such nice parties. I would love to see a picture of Hayley's birthday party Natalie.

We have decided to have a party for Sydney on the 19th of January (because I'm working this weekend ) We are having it in a conference room at a hotel here in town. Our living room just isn't big enough to even have Marco's 3 brother's and their families, let alone my family and a few friends. So that way, we get to use their room (which is nicely child-proof by the way) for 4 hours and they get to do the cleaning up!

I haven't decided on a theme yet. I wish I could find something to do with Clifford the Big Red Dog, because I really like him, but no such luck around here. Lots of Blues Clues, Barney, Barbies, Bob the Builder etc. But I haven't decided what we should go with. I bought simple invitations, I wanted one's that are specifically for a 1st Birthday, so I'm really happy that I found some cute one's.

This is exciting...I can't wait!

I got some cute Veggie Tales plates and cups that I think I'm going to use for Jonathan's. MIL decorates cakes and she's going to do the cake. Shona--do you do anything else for your Veggie Tale party?

Mackenzie's b-day is next thursday. and I waited till the last moment too. I guess christmas rushed by to quickly.
So I sent out invitations last friday for a party this saturday.
My moms idea was to have a pot luck type dinner, everyone bring a dish. and were going to fry a turkey. Were pretty much just inviting family and a couple of our freinds. I bought winney the pooh decorations. and im making a lady bug cake and a bee hive cake. I hope her party goes off well, but I have never done this before, so im guessing at it all.

Hey Leah, I found these websites where you can order "Clifford" party stuff:

http://www.partysmart.com/cgi-bin/nc...142&cgmenbr=26

http://www.birthdayshack.com/order.h...=3380&sd=13913

I don't know if you have a Party City Store where you live, but if so I would try there also.

Dina,
For Veggie tales, I used the Veggie Tales streamers and plates and cups, (all got at a Christian bookstore), I did the cake that we ate and drew Bob and Larry on it. I think that's about all we did.

For Abby's first birthday we did a "rubber duckie" theme. I just got yellow and white decorations (balloons, streamers, plates napkins, tablecloth etc) I had a punch bowl fill with blue kool-aid and some rubber ducks floating on top. I did a cake that was iced light blue and put a mommy duck and her babies on top. There were only 2 other babies her age there, and I gave them a little stufffed duck that I got on clearance. For the older kids I got those little rubber duckie necklaces that they blow bubbles with. Everyone went home with a little Hershey Hug and Kiss wrapped in saran wrap with a ribbon tied on top, with this verse attached:
Thanks for coming to play with me on my 1st birthday!!!
Hugs and Kisses, Abigail

Oh and for her invitations I just got some pictures of her and wrote this on the back:

What a great year, its been so much fun!
Hard to believe, I'm already turning one!

I want to celebrate, so a party there will be!
With food and fun, and neat things to see!

is the time,
is the date!
My house is the place to be,so please don't be late!
Call Mommy and Daddy to RSVP.
I hope you can come and play with me!

Love, Abigail

I've looked almost everywhere for cute party supplies and NOTHING! All they have is Bob the Builder, Barbie and Blues Clues. I was thinking more of a ladybug theme (because we've always called Sydney our little ladybug), or maybe Clifford the Big Red Dog.

I don't know where I'll find what I'm looking for on such a short time limit? Oh well, I'll make due with what I can find.

Leah did you check out the web site for party planning. They have really cute ideas for a Ladybug party. You get all your decorations in red and black,it shows you how to ice a cake to look like a ladybug(easy) and a bunch of other simple ideas. I would check it out if I were you.

I did check out the website Bonnie and it looks great! I don't really have the time to make all those little crafty things and to make a cake. I like the "buy it in a package" stuff! LOL

We've decided to just go with butterflies. I found all the stuff I needed at the dollar store and I think we're all set to go, except for ordering the cake.

Thanks!!

No problem! I hope she has a great day! I was thinking of doing a butterfly party for Abby too! but her birthday isn't until May and her two brothers' are before her.
