Generic Diapers?

Thread Starter
I wondered if anyone has found a decent generic diaper? I've tried a few and here are my opinions:

Toys R Us - Not very absorbent, tapes do not stick well, runs almost a size smaller than the namebrands (makes me wonder if it's really less expensive by the time you figure that you get at least 20 diapers per case less!)

Walmart - I can't remember the exact name, but they had "dry" in it. Terrible diapers! They literally disintegrated while he was wearing them! They would pick apart like a bathing suit does when you sit on the pavement. He'd leave a trail of diaper throughout the house!

Harris Teeter -- Theirs looked as if they'd be OK, but they also ran a size too small, and I had to give them away.

I really hate to spend $20 on a pack of diapers - Can anyone else suggest a decent alternative? Currently, I love LUVS, but they are getting difficult to find for some reason. I'm afraid they, the last plastic diaper in existence, will soon be going to the "cloth-like" cover I despise!

Suggestions?

Have you thought about using cloth diapers. You'd save so much money in the long run!

considered it

I did actually consider cloth diapers, but after looking into it and watching a friend of mine who used cloth, I decided it really wasn't for me.

I really like the convenience of the disposables -- I'm hooked, what can I say?

Have you tried the Sam's Club diapers, Smiles? They
are pretty good, and the price seemed decent. Diaper
buying is one of my LEAST favorite things to do. I
got a free month of cloth diapers with my second baby
and I did terrible with them. I think I have an extreme
lack of coordination and could never get them on right,
so they always soaked through.

Geez, there you go; confessions of a disposable diaper
user!

Thanks

No, I haven't tried those yet -- thanks for the suggestion. I've had such lousy luck with disposables that I'm really afraid to try anymore without a recommendation. Especially a case at a time! LOL

But if you were happy with them, then I'll give them a shot. I need to hit Sams anyway, so I'll take a look!

Thank you!

I too have tried the cheapo diapers as well, and they all leaked..But what hubby and I are curious about are the diaper depos(or whatever they are called) where they drop off diapers and later come and pick them up...has anyone ever done that??
Our favorite are pampers for both our young ones...
And as for huggies. they arent bad except for our 5 wk old they leak through the diaper but work pretty good with our toddler. What does everyone else like?

Going to try Drypers

I bought some Drypers today -- same price as Luvs, but an instant $1 off coupon. I'll let you know how that goes.

I totally agree on the Huggies. They leaked something awful the first year. After that, they were fine. Strange, isn't it?
I tried Drypers for a while and didn't really like them. I think they are too thick and they sag a lot. As far as huggies go it seems like you have to change them as soon as they pee once. I love Pampers and Luvs. Although I don't know about the pampers anymore since they switched to that cloth-like cover.

And have you ladies ever noticed the smell that comes from huggies? what is that?? lol
I have never tried drypers, so let me know what you think of them, I've been afraid to buy them...

Yes I have noticed the smell that comes from Huggies. It is horrible. I am always afraid people will think that I'm not bathing my kid.

I have just not had any luck with the generic brands. Goodness knows at the price of Pampers (Which I swear by), you'd think I'd just buy the generics. But, everytime I have tried, my kids have leaked in them. I just try to buy them online whenever I have a coupon or a discount.

thats so true mama..lol...Have any of you signed up with Pampers online? I get there coupons and they have been $2 off for 1 pack and even for the wipes, Its helped us in some tight jams lately. If not you might want to look into it.

I've signed up for that Pampers club twice since Cody was born and have yet to get my coupons. I even emailed customer service and told them. They said I should be getting them.

Jessica never wore anything but Pampers her first year in a half. Poor Cody wears whatever I have a coupon for. Of course, since Pampers went to that semi-clothlike diaper, I don't really care.

Personally, I'm still a Luvs fan -- which is why I'm sure I'll hate the Drypers. But anything is worth a try!

I also signed up for the Pampers Club before Jordan was born and the only coupons I get are the ones from the commissary. But now I really like Luvs and their coupons are really hard to come by. I'm lucky if I get one every 2-3 months.

Well, today at WalMart they had specially packaged bonus packs of Luvs. For 16.99, you get a Mega pack of diapers, 72 wipes and a Barney or Baby Bop plush. Oh, and there are coupons in there too Nice deal.

So I'm gonna give them another try. It has been awhile since we first tried them...who knows. Dawn, I haven't forgotten about you. If these don't work out for us, I will be sure to send you the coupons. I'll keep you posted.

No go on Drypers

I have to tell you, I'm not at all thrilled with the Drypers. He wakes up soaked every morning to the point that I have to change his clothes and the sheets. Guess it's back to Luvs -- even if I have to buy them in the the little packages.

I'll check out Walmart today and see if I luck out there!

overfilling :)

You might want to try the things you put in the diapers for night time. I saw them at the grocery store. Kind of like extra liners. We actually have had great luck with the walmart brand of White Cloud. Very similar to Huggies but a lot cheaper. We got 76 of size 5 for $15.99 and they hold up pretty well. The problem we are having of late is Quinn( our 15 month old son, loves removing the diapers is they are wet. He has done it with any brand we try. We try to leave him in pants for the most part but they are just some times when a diaper is easier .. like out of the bath.

Have you ever tried CVS diapers. They are pretty good. Especially when you can get them on sale. Check Sunday's paper. They run 2 for $13 or somewhere around there. We usually like to use them during the day and use LUVS at night. I prefer Luvs over any diaper. Pampers are my second choice and Drypers and Huggies are my least favorites. Huggies seem to leave the gel that supposely keeps them dry all over their bottoms and makes a huge mess. There's enough mess without a diaper causing more.

The Walmart here in York,Pa sells a brand called White Cloud. They sell for about $17 for the jumbo. They have the cloth covers and velco sides( which I love because the tapes never restick after a diaper check). I have been using them for the last 2 months and have had very few leaks, and they have yet to fall apart or even leave those little crystals on Jakes butt!! I really like them.

I was just in Walmart today staring at those and debating it, but I stuck it out with Luvs again. I went through so many generics that I'm a little skeptical. Perhaps I'll give them a try next time. Thanks for letting us know!

When my son was born in june I received a super mega pack of dry bottoms as a gift. At first I turned my nose up at them; however I used them anyway. I was suprised with them my only complaint was that the sticky tabs were sometimes hard to get to release without tearing the diaper. But only occassionally. I haven't used any more of this brand- i had plenty of pampers coupons- When I went to Walmart last night I got another super mega pack of the dry bottoms 12.97 as opposed to 20.97 for pampers. I will see how they are in the bigger size now compared to the infant size.

Hello I am new to this. But I like the Smiles From Sams Club. I find them to be good. You can get 168 diapers for $31 And so far they have not leaked like the huggies.
I like the White Cloud diapers. We used them on Christian but right now are using Huggies. I guess on some babies they work and other babies they don't. White Cloud diapers are good for as cheap as they are. We once used Dri bottoms or something like that from Walmart and they were awful. On Christian they fell apart and everything. It was really messy.

dry botoms working out ok

just wanted to let you know that the dry bottom diapers that i bought for my son seem to be doing ok. they sometimes leave a little of the gel stuff on his bottom but not bad. i like them a lot better than huggies that is for sure!!

sookeylynn that is good I can't stand Huggies they leak so much!

Wow! Everyone has such awful things to say about Huggies and they work great on Christian. They don't leak through at all. The Dri Bottoms on the other hand worked awful on him. We also tried the ones that have smilies on him and they did not work. The White Cloud are all right. I buy those but sometimes at night he leaks but not all that often. Guess different babies need different diapers.

I bought LUVS today. Hope those work. Dawn has such great things to say about them that I decided to try them. At our Walmart they have a whole big selection of LUVS. They don't have as many little packs but they have a lot of the MEGA packs. Guess we are the total opposite of Dawn's store. It must just depend on the demand of them in that area or something.

Here is hoping that we all find that perfect diaper for our little ones.

Good luck. You know I stopped buying all those diapers and just went on and brought Cloth diapers and use the others at the babysitter. I find that the all in one cloth daipers work good. And the only time that she has had a diaper rash is when she stayed with my mother. I have also saved lots of money. And they double as good spitup rags.
You know its the weirdest thing how certain diapers can have a different effect on a baby then others.Noah can use either pampers or huggies, even luvs work fine on him, drypers is a no go though. But huggies on my baby Emmah they leak right through.I dont know if its because of the gender difference or the actual diaper, but wow!!!
I too am a lil scared about buying a different brand of diaper...I dont know why it is,I guess I dont want to waste what lil money we do have on a product that might not work on either of them.I am probably a little on the kooky side I guess.lol
I guess I need to take that next step and bite my tongue and buy a different brand. How else are you going to know if you dont try.
