When baby sleeps through the night

Jake(3mos.) has been sleeping through the night for a month now, my question is " How long does it take your body to realize it doesn't need to make all that milk for the 2:00 am feeding??? I wake up every morning at about 4am with breast that are so full they hurt,my bra is soaked and when I take it off to change into a dry one I have a projectile niagra falls!!! I don't want to pump because I want my body to STOP making milk(or at least that much milk) at that time of night. I usually just put a towel under them and let the river run it's course but it's been over a month now and I would rather be getting some sleep. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Paijj,
Most moms who have trouble with fullness and leaking do find that when their babies start sleeping through the night, they experience some discomfort as their body adjusts to the new schedule. However, this adjustment period usually only lasts a few days to a week. If you have been on the new schedule for a month without seeing improvement, then you might want to look into the possibility of using a product that actually controls leakage rather than pads that just soak up the excess milk.
BLIS (breastmilk leakage inhibitor system)is pair of soft plastic inserts that fit inside your bra and put gentle pressure on the nipple - enough to reduce leaking, but not enough to cause plugged ducts. This system can be very helpful for mothers like you who experience excessive leaking, especially when time hasn't resolved the problem.
There is information on my website about BLIS, and also a link to the BLIS website so you can get more information.
After a month, it might be worth a try.
Good luck - Anne

It's not so much the leaking thats the problem,it's the engorgment and pain. There are nights I roll over and it brings tears to my eyes! I thought it would be less of a problem after a week or two, but I have yet to get to sleep through the night because my breast just get too engorged.

I can remember having similar problems when I was trying to wean Jessica -- have you tried just expressing a little milk when they start hurting that much? I would do just enough to relieve the pressure, then I could go back to sleep.

Hope you find something that works for you! It kind of takes the fun out of baby sleeping through the night if you can't
