Ok I need suggestions on getting the BEST car seat for a new baby. Keara doesn not have one yet and we really won't need it for about 2 more months but I want to start looking for one now and having it here when she gets to come home with us. Any suggestions??

We use Graco for all three of our kiddos, never had a complaint and they are easy to adjust once they start growing like weeds!

I've never had any brand preference I just wanted to say that you should get an infant seat not a convertible seat that can face front and back. They just aren't very convenient for little ones.

Well the infant seats are good up to 20 lbs rear facing only while the convertible seats are good up untill around 40 lbs after you turn it around.
The problem with convertible seats is that they are often big and bulky for little babies and you can't pull them out of the car and use them as carriers.

I had an Evenflo travel system which is good. It has the car seat that doubles as a carrier up to 20 pounds.

We used the Graco SnugRide with the kids from birth to age one. The boys (being twins) were 5 pounds when we left the hospital and the seats did fine. Those carriers do come out so you can carry the baby into the house without waking them. They ran about $50 2 years ago. We then bought the front facing when they turned one, it was another expense, but I really liked being able to remove the carrier when they were tiny.

Yes I like the idea of being able to move the carrier. Guess I will check around and see what I can find.

Pam, maybe because she is a premie, the hospital might have some suggestions on the type that might be best for her. I know the infant carseats I have had were for babies 5-20lbs. Good Luck!

I would also suggest you get one with a base. It stays in the car the entire time and the seat just snaps into it. You can also get a head rest thingy that you set unside the seat and it keeps the baby's head from moving and is a more snug fit. I used this with both kids. I got both of my seats at Walmart. They both fit into a stroller which made it so convenient for travel. All seats have to be approved and safe and you can spend as little as $30 to as much as you want on a car seat.

Megg your car seat sounds really good. What kind is it??

Pam, most of the infant seats these days come with a base that you strap into the car with the seat belt. Then you just snap the carrier/infant seat into it when you get in the car.

I have the Graco Travel System that comes with the infant seat and I love it! It comes with a base for the car and the infant carrier can be used in the car or the stroller (snaps into place with both). But they aren't cheap. Mine costs $200. Ally is 2 and we are still using the stroller. It's pretty big. I imagine I will be able to use it for another 2 years or more, so it will be worth it.

But you can find similar things for cheaper. I just wanted this particular one. It matches my high chair and the swing!

I think it is a Cosco??? It looks sort of like this except mine does not have a tray. And Gavin still uses the stroller and he will be 4 next month. We got it as a gift and it has been used with 2 kids. really worth the money!

I would definately go for an infant carrier seat. It is so much easier for mommy to get out with the baby, and the craddle the baby more than the convertable. I just bought a convertable for Jennabecause she was just getting too long fr her carrier. I would definately go that way though.
