My BIL and FIL have a deadly allergy to pennisilin. My dh has never been tested for this allergy, but has never received pennisilin. (sorry I don't remember how to spell it.) Shound we assume our daughther will have this allergy as well? Should we tell our doctor about this before she is born? Thanks.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I could say to Alice (17 months) "Where's the duck?" And she could point him out on the page. And "Where's the cow?" "Where's the cat?" Etc. And we can do the animal...

We really liked this book, though a couple of the pictures are a little freaky. But it kept Alice's attention! (The only reason we borrowed it was because Alice's name is Alice...) And I got...

I would definitely discuss this concern with your MD.
My Mom has a PCN (Penicillin) allergy, but when I was 3, they gave me PCN. WRONG ANSWER.... I had what they call an anaphylactic reaction & went into respiratory distress. My Mom said they immediately gave me shots (I was too young to remember or to know what they gave me) to fix it. (Probably some epinephrine & such.) What a bunch of boneheads... Mom told them of her PCN allergy & they blew it off.
So, bottom line, PLEASE talk with your MD about your concerns. VERY good question...

Kim, I am so afraid to ever give my dd pen. My BIL James spent some time in the ICU and came only a hair's width from dying due to PCN. My FIL has it just as badly. Thanks for the information.

No problem, Lenora. Just stress to the MD - or Pediatrician whoever will be working with Caitlyn that you DON'T want her to have PCN due to the extreme reaction to it for many of Caitlyn's blood relatives. I would much, much rather she NEVER receive it & NOT be allergic to it, than what happened to me. I don't remember any of it, thank goodness, but it could have killed me. Not a risk worth taking, in my book.
