Thin women suffer more from morning sickness
According to a study by Israeli researcher Dr. Zahi Ben-Aroya, which was presented to the annual meeting of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, women who have lower body mass before pregnancy tend to vomit more during their first trimester. Dr. Ben-Aroya's team surveyed 61 women who came in for medical care. Women on the lower scale of normal body weight tended to vomit two or more times a day, while women who were overweight or obese tended to vomit once or less a day. The researchers theorize that breathing patterns may play a role because heavy women tend to have difficulty fully expanding their lungs, which leads to hypoventilation (not enough oxygen), which in turn decreases the chance of developing vertigo and vomiting.
