Hi, Kim- Jared was prescribed Albuterol today for a wet-sounding cough- I kept thinking I had heard this name before, but it didn't click until later this aft- this is the stuff my mom uses to control her asthma, which Jared does not have ! Can you recommend a site where I might could go to find out more about this drug - I'm really uncomfortable giving this to my baby !!

My son was on Albuterol when he was five months old. He had RSV, and we had to use it with a breathing machine (I can't remember the technical name anymore). Is Jared supposed to inhale it?

Nope, this is a liquid, to be taken orally.

Logan has been on this since he was 4 months old and came down with rsv bad. He has asthma as a result of it. Albuterol helps to control the inflamation in the lungs to help them breath better. It is not just for asthma though. It can make them a little hyper but that has only happened to Logan when we have had to give frequent treatments. Did they give you a nebulizer for it? Or is it an inhaler? I don;t think hthe dr would have given it to you if he didn;t feel it was needed. Try a search from your browser for more info.

They gave us albuterol to use with a breathing machine when Jonathan had a repiratory infection. (The idiot doctor at the hospital said he had asthma before he ever even looked at the poor kid, but that's another story... He doesn't have it!) I've never known anyone personally that took it orally, but I think I did hear that they were working on developing that a while back. It did help Jonathan, but our doctor said only to use it when he really sounded bad (wheezing or cough coming from his chest), because the stuff was addictive and it could affect his moods.

It does come orally. We took Christian to the ER when he was a year old because he was having problems breathing. He was given the breathing treatment at the hospital with albuterol and they gave us the liquid to take home. We were only to give it to him once a day. It really helped him. I could notice a big change in his breathing with it.

Nicholas has been on and off Albuterol since he was 6 months old. But he has used a nebulizer or inhaler, never the oral. It has always helped him tremendously and the results are immediate.

The Dr had given us a choice of liquid or neb but he also said the liquid has more of a chance to make him hyper so we went with the neb.

Drew took Albuterol when he was 3 months old and had acute bronchitis that landed him in the hospital. We used a nebulizer for him when he got home. Used it on Ally when she was about 6 months when she got sick. But I have never heard of the liquid form.

Try looking here and here. This might give you some info.

It should be safe for your little one. They use albuterol for many respiratory issues... not just asthma. I don't think I could add anything further to what's already been said.

Good luck!
