How to get my son to stop repeating everything

Thread Starter
Lately, my 3 1/2 year old boy is repeating everything I say to him - for example:

If I say,"Richie, please pick up the toys." He will say,"Pick up the toys?"

I then say,"Yes, pick up the toys, please!", he will do it again!!!! "Pick up the toys?"

It makes him sound so (excuse me ) stupid!!

Any ideas on how to stop this?? Help!!

My son did it as well. Occassionally, at 6 yrs old, he still does it. He did it yesterday while DH was on an important phone call. My advice, ride it out. It was a phase that mine went through and eventually overcame. Lasted about 8 months, though. Believe me, this is one of many. At 4, he went through the blinking and grunting stage. He would blink ( I mean, really blink) and also grunt or moan. There was a little boy in his class who did it and that's where he got it from. Kids are easy to pick up on things. That phase lasted a while then when the summer came and they were separated, he stopped. Once school started again, he started grunting. It's annoying and at times, embarrasing. I try to ignore it b/c sometimes they do things for attention.

Good luck...
