Ok I am trying really hard not to freak but it is is not easy. I noticed that Emily had a swollen area on her neck this afternoon when she turned away from me to look at the tv. It was really pronounced so I had her come to me so I could feel it. It was quite large and on thleft side of the front of her throat. I called the pedi and he stopped by after rounds. He actually cussed under his breath at he size of it. She has a little bit of a sore throat and the lump/gland doesn't seem to hurt too much. A little tender if really prodded. I am supposed to give her Augmentin and then call him thurs or sooner if it swells anymore of if she gets a temp. When I look this stuff up it all screams cancer. What is the liklihood of this. I know it could very well be nothing too but it wasn't at all noticeble til this afternoon and it is hard not soft. HELP??????

I've never known any physician to give Augmentin, an antibiotic, for anything cancerous or pre-cancerous.
(for MOM) Try to take a bunch of deep breaths & follow MD's orders. I know it's easier said than done, but I wouldn't panic at this time. Just keep an eye on her... from the sounds of it, the Augmentin should do the trick. Watch her temp & give her plenty of fluids... water & such.
