did the nurse make you go ahead and start pushing, or was the baby allowed to come down in the birth canal naturally for a bit?

Both times I started pushing immediately. With Issac, I was so tired cause it was the middle of the night, I wouldn't have minded waiting for just a little while!

By the time they got me situated in the delivery room the baby was coming down on its own---lucky I have very very fast labors.

Wow! Lucky you, girl!

They left it up to me so I started pushing right away.

I never fully dilated with either of mine. I was 9 1/2 the first time and the nurse let me start pushing for about an hour before the doc came in and all hell broke loose. The second time I went from 1 cm to 9 1/2 in a couple of hours then stalled. They let me start pushing to see if it would help and it didn't. His head was 16 inches and it wasn't coming out so I got a csection.

My first 2 I think I may have pushed once or twice before they were fully engaged but then they were out super fast.
With the last 3 as soon as I hit 10 they were pushing themselves out. I was urged not to push because no one was wearing sterile gloves yet.

1 was unassited and the nurse had just started to remove the end of the bed and had to hold it because the baby came out onto the bed. Dumb doc didn't believe that I was ready.

The last 2 were too fast to have been out of the birth canal anyway.

She just came out! Stupid nurses didn't believe me that she was there and doc wasn't there yet. Had to hold her in.

Once I was fully dilated the nurse did a final check before I could push...she realized LIz was breach and told Me NOT TO PUSH you know how hard that is!!!

Kirstie-Raie came down naturally .. she was breech and they wanted her to take her time.

I was told to puch right away with Chase.

And labor with Kale only lasted 40 minutes .. so I don't remember much!

If I can remember right, I started pushing right away......and 3 and half hours later, she was still up there, had to have c-section, she wouldnt budge.

I got to push when I felt it. I couldn't even tell ya how far along I was.

Started pushing right away both times.

I'm actually not sure about this one, when I was fully dilated, I knew it was time to push, so I just went ahead and did it. I think she was right there, because it felt like if I didn't push, she was gonna just pop right out. I pushed 12 times and she was out. The nurses actually wanted me to wait a few minutes for my Dr. to arrive, I said foget it, if she's here, she's here.

Well, when I arrived at the hospital, I was a 5cm, and about an hour later, I was at 8cm. Another 15 minutes, and I started pushing and got yelled at because they hadn't checked me again. I refused to roll onto my back (back labor sucks!), so the nurse grabbed one leg and lifted it so the dr. could check me. That had to have looked really funny

I guess I was at 10, because they told me to push, and about 10 minutes later, Joey arrived.

So that would be from 5cm to 10cm in 1.5 hours, total labor 4 hours. Lightning labor. The scary part is that they say the second one comes in half the time.

I'd say that's about right, Judy! With Rachelle I was in labor about 10 hours including pushing, with Issac it was about 5!

Hmmmmmmm..........I don't know....I was in so much pain at that point, my epidural had wore off, and I was exhausted after 32 hours of labor...

I think I just got to push...
like i said earlier my third one only took two hrs
post #20 of 28
i had to wait till she was engaged lol but i soooooo wanted to push!!
Both times, they told me to start pushing right away.

I started pushing before anyone told me I could, and got yelled at - then the Dr. rushed in, checked me, and told me to go ahead (guess I was fully dilated )
and I don't do the dilating thing

well I get to 3 cm and that is as far as I go, so I never had to push, I had c-sections both times
post #24 of 28
I had the major urge to push..... they checked me and told me to go ahead and push. Twelve minutes later we had the Peanut!

Briahnna and Skye both slid down and crowned before anyone knew I was even fully dilated. It's a weird feeling having them slide down so fast.
I never had to push to get them down, they did that on their own, but I did have to push to get them out of you know what
With Jessica I felt the urge to push, so they checked me and told me I was fully dilated and could start whenever I was ready.
The nurses and midwife didn't have that option this time. Kieran was ready to come out!!
The DR asked me if I wanted to start pushing and I greatfully said YES! I was actually secretly already pushing... It was the only thing that would take the pain away!!!

With Josh I had the urge to push at 4 cm so when she told me I could start with a few "grunty pushes" I went whole-hog and gave it all I had(I was sooooo done!) She told me to stop pushing so she could cut me and by the time she turned back around Josh had kicked (literally pushed his feet against the top of my uterus) his way out.

With Jake and Jess I only got to 9.5 cm and my DR went in and pulled their heads through my cervix, because the urge to push was so strong and she didn't want to risk me pushing against the cervix and having it swell. after she pulled their heads through I pushed the rest of the way.

So I didn't wait, but I didn't want to wait with any of them! Coarse I think I only pushed about 3-5 times with any of them.
