Ideas needed!

Since we have a yard now (and I'm desperately trying to save money), Drew and I decided that he will have a Camping Party for his birthday this year.

We have a tent that the boys can sleep in (5 of them including Drew). I am going to set up some kind of Scavenger Hunt in the back yard for after dark with the flashlights they all will get in their "goodie" bags. But I need ideas of what kind of stuff to hide and what other stuff I can put in their "goodie" bags. Maybe the stuff they find can be the prizes they take home?

I need stuff that I can probaby find at the dollar store or really cheap somewhere.

I would give them all little flashlights on cords that they can wear around their neck. You can give them those at the beginning of the party.
Plastic bugs
magnifying glasses

I don't know...I'm not really creative

Magnifying glasses! Great Idea, Elaine! Thanks!

Wonder if I could find glow-in-the-dark bugs? Then I could plant them around the yard for them to find.

Brenda, our dollar store has glow in the dark bugs! You have to kinda charge them up under the light, but afterward, they glow

Also (our dollar store) they have little canteen's shaped like EVERYTHING! from bugs to cars....a plastic canteen would be hand when your camping and the other day Nicholas bought a little battery operated/hand held fan at the $$ store...its hot in Tx right? maybe they would like their own little fan

the dollar stores have great kids stuff for camping, little canteens, bugs, bug houses, glow in the dark braclets, necklaces, glasses. Check it out, we got mykayla some really cool stuff from there for the cottage. Also got a little tube that has a compass, whistle and a few other little things for camping.

Spaggie, I posted a thread about camping birthday theme. Maybe something there can help you. http://www.babyuniversity.com/forums...threadid=53335

Oriental trading has some great CHEAP stuff

You could hide candy, a spooky book for them to read later, binoculars.

You HAVE to have a campfire and roast marshmellows

roasted marshmellows! Just be sure to call the fire department or whoever you call for that, to make sure you are allowed to have a fire.

We do that all the time.....and the thread that JennG posted has an idea for a Smores gift basket

Also, we have had a treasure hunt where the kids find painted rocks to place around the fire 'pit' or spot where you will burn....once all the colorful rocks are found and placed in a circle the weenie/marshmallow roast can begin

Nicholas always loves helping me paint the rocks you can even just paint them with left over house paint and let the kids decorate them with craft paints or markers
