Court overturns Texas sodomy law

Justices say it violates Constitution’s equal protection clause

MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

WASHINGTON, June 26 — In a major victory for gay rights advocates, the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a Texas statute that bans gay couples — but not heterosexuals — from engaging in sodomy, ruling that the law was an unconstitutional violation of privacy.

I completely agree with this. If two people of the opposite sex can do whatever they want with each other in their bedroom, why can't a gay couple?

Certainly seems fair to me.

Now, this is just funny. Are thye gonna send in the police whenever they hear soeone having sex to make sure it is vaginal?? Or are they going to form a special Sex Police??

I think they did the right thing in overturning this obsolete law. Dh and I have more than a few gay/lesbian friends, one being one of his ex girfriends, and I would hate for them to have to go thru what this couple from Houston did ! I read the ruling ( am now crosseyed and exhausted - flippin'legalese !) and the only problem I see with it, it that is ONLY pertains to same sex couples - so if you're heterosexual, and you enjoy anal sex , you can still be prosecuted ! ( at least that's what i understood ! )

Thursday’s ruling invalidated a Texas law against “deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex.” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority that the law “demeans the lives of homosexual persons.”
Right. It demeans the lives of homosexual persons. Give me a break. What a monumental waste fo the court's time.

Actually, the law did not apply to heterosexual sex, only to homosexuals. It still doesn't .

... Scalia said the ruling invited laws allowing gay marriage.
“This reasoning leaves on shaky, pretty shaky grounds, state laws limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples,” Scalia wrote.
I think that too.
