Teething Pain

Good morning ladies!

I can't remember if I asked this before, but I'm having a bit of trouble here. Noah is teething, and he's not sleeping because of the pain. He will not take a teething ring, nor a teething toy. We've tried baby orajel, and that does not seem to work. I gave him a bottle with very cold water in it yesterday because it was so hot out when I took him for a walk. That worked for about 1 min, and he kicked the bottle out of his mouth, and would not put it back in, not even 2 hours later. Any suggestions? I even tried the washcloth idea, and that didn't work. Also, is there any other juice I can give him that won't cause him to strain so much when he tries to poo? I give him apple juice and dilute it with about an ounce- once and a half of water. He didn't like the pear or white grape juice. But, I'm wondering if the apple juice is causing him to be a tad bit constipated. He turns bright red when he tries to poo and (I know people strain, but he's straining a bit too hard). Help please! Thank you! And have a wonderful fourth of July weekend!

have you tried the teething tablets ? They work wonders for Jared !! Hyland's teething tablets - I find them @ the grocery store.

Sydney only has 10 teeth so far (yah at 18mo. ) but the one's that she's had the most troubles with so far, are the molars and man! were they bad!!! We used Orajel on those one's and ALOT of Advil, because she would spike a temp. and then go into convulsions. Other than that, I'm up for suggestions too, since her teeth seem to be taking forever to come!

Poor Noah. Here is what we do. I give Motrin 1x every 8 hours, at the 4 hour mark, I give Tylenol. I use Hurricane Teething Gel (we get at CVS), it is dental strength numbing power, and also use the Highland Teething Tablets (Walmart). Keep him dosed on medicine, don't miss a dose. Keep trying the teething rings, or find some teething toys. Parenthood makes a lot of toys with teething ends on them to chew, I get those at Target. Good luck.

On the apple juice question, I do believe it causes constipation. I used to put 1 ounce Apple Juice to the rest water, diluting ALOT. Try gatorade if he doesn't like any other juices.

Oh cool! Thanks. So, you're giving Motrin every eight hours, and Tylonol every four? Just want to make sure so I don't overdose the poor little one. Being that he's six months old and all (well, will be on the 12th). I didn't think they recommended giving gatorade because I thought there was too much salt or something like that in it. But, thanks for letting me know!

I did the same as Jen with the motrin and tylenol. My ped told me to use both at the same time like that. The orajel did little to help and the teething tablets did not hing at all for Hailey.
I also watered the apple juice down A LOT. Still do, in fact.

So, I should only use 2 once of apple juice and the rest water? Sorry if I sound dumb.

Re: Teething Pain

I would definitely try to find the Hylands teething tablets. I don't typically like to use Tylenol, and I've heard bad things about motrin (a woman at a hospital who's daugher had leukemia told me that the nurses told her that Motrin screws with your platelets...don't know how accurate that is, but I'm not about to find out). I use tylenol only when really necessary. But the teething tablets worked really well for dd. And then definitely helped her sleep better when teething as well. When it was really bad, I'd use 3 tablets, and repeat the dose as indicated and as necessary. As for the juice, definitely dilute it with water by at least half...I usually do more water than juice.
