(SafetyAlerts) - Amy's Kitchen Inc. is voluntarily recalling from distribution in Northern California, Hawaii, Northwest Nevada and Texas, 107 cases of frozen Burrito Non-dairy Made with Organic Beans and Rice due to mislabeling. The burritos bear the lot number B273K. The packages actually contain bean and cheese burritos, which may cause allergic reactions if consumed by individuals allergic to milk.

The issue came to the company's attention when a consumer called about the possibility that the product contained cheese. Amy's Kitchen immediately tested the product and contacted the FDA informing them of the test and the presence of cheese in one lot of its burritos labeled beans and rice. The company has instituted new production procedures to avoid any mislabeling issues in the future.

The six-ounce frozen product comes in a plastic wrapper labeled Burrito Non-dairy Made with Organic Beans and Rice with lot number B273K marked in small letters on the seam. The packages were packed in February of this year and shipped to two distribution centers: Albertsons, Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas and Safeway Inc. in Tracy, California. Albertsons distributed the product to stores in Austin, Dallas, Lubbock and West Texas. Safeway distributed the product to stores throughout Northern California, Hawaii, and Northwest Nevada.

Consumers who are not allergic to milk can consume the product or call for a full refund. Those consumers who are allergic to milk, should dispose of the product, keep the package and call for a full refund. For instructions and/or questions, consumers may call the company collect at (707) 578-7753. Alternatively, consumers can call (707) 578-7270.

A mailing to FAAN members has been funded by Amy's Kitchen to be sure members are aware of the situation.
