Frugal Mini Jack O' Lanterns

You want to make some mini pumpkins for Halloween with the kids but they cost too much? Here's an alternative that won't break the bank!

Mini Jack O Lanterns

You will need:
2 oranges
a pointed knife
2 candles

Directions:

1. Cut the tops off the oranges (with kids have parent do the carving)

2. Carefully scoop out the inside of each orange

3. Crave a face on each orange.

4. Put a flat candle inside each orange and have a parent light the candle.

Good Idea! I bet that they smell great too! Wonder how long they would last though?

I think you could make them a day or two before Halloween, that way they don't dry up too much.

That is a great idea!! Thanks!

(I think I'll need to practice this one before I do it with DS!)

I was looking over all the craft activities we did when I taught preschool and found a bunch of them for Halloween. I'll be posting some more ideas this weekend and throughout the month.

Another great idea!

And my boys LOVE oranges, so we won't have to worry about what to do with the insides.

Do you think with supervision this could be done in a kindergarten class?

I think that if it is a small class or maybe you can have the kids paint them if you are concerned about them getting hurt.

Michael is painting his own oranges and I plan on cutting the rest of the oranges but letting Michael scoop them out.
