Candle in the Darkness was good. I actually had a hard time putting it down in places.
It is about a girl who lives in the South during slavery. Her mother dies and she moves up North with family while her father grieves. When she arrives up North, she realizes there are groups for people against slavery and she decides to visit a meeting.
Her father comes up North 2 years later to take her back to Richmond Virginia. The war starts and she feels God is calling her to help the slaves instead of her "country"--the South. She does what she thinks God is calling her to do regardless of what her fiancee, family and friends think about her.
It is actually really good. I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I thought at first it would be so much information about the civil war that it would take away from the story but the author did it in such a way that you learned about the civil war but kept the story line the main focus. I learned quite a bit about slavery and the civil war.
I am off to look for her next book. If you look on amazon all of her books have 5 stars for reviews

So I can't wait to read more! I read one review where she was given 5 stars but someone said they were upset with the girl for betraying the South to help the North.
