Butternut squash

Yesterday I made buternut squash baby food for Emily and PJ. I had never bought it before, nor did I know what it was. (Boy, it's an odd looking creature, isn't it?)
The girls liked it, and I have a question. Is there an easy way to peel it? I spent more time trying to peel it then I did cooking it!

Thanks Liz! THat will be a lot easier than trying to peel it!

I cut mine in half while raw, then baked it in the oven. After it cooled, I scooped out the middle.

Liz's way would work too! You're doing such a great job!

Thanks for the compliment! Did you read my post about the applesauce? lol!

I guess I'm the only fool who peeled it first, huh?

The first time I made it for Elizabeth...I cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, wrapped it in aluminfoil and baked it. Then I scooped out the flesh. I have read that butternut squash has a sweeter taste when it was baked.

One other time...I peeled the outside with a peeler, cut it up in cubes and steamed it.

I baked sweet potatoes and when I pureed them I put a little cinnamon in. It smelt great!

Heather, one more thing. When I made butternut squash, I added an apple (steamed) when I pureed it.

I baked mine too.
I have started making Maci's food now as well. I was a little lazy at first but now I am getting on the ball!!

I have never made it, but when I lived at home my mom would cut it in half while raw, then baked it in the oven. Then she would scoop out the middle.
