Its the Winter Solstice! The Sun has descended into the South, making the days short here in the Northern latitudes. Meanwhile our friends down under the equator are having their Summer Solstice. Wherever you are, this is a day of respite. Change is in the air, but within this movement we can create a day of quiet rest. Take stock of your life and set new priorities. And, as the Sun enters serious Capricorn at 2:03 am EST, retrograde Mercury is aligning opposite Saturn, creating a double whammy of responsibility and commitment.

ARIES (March 20–April 19)
A dull thud is heard in the background of your life as something that has been pushing forward now comes to a standstill. Youve been sailing into the shallows and youve hit solid ground. There is, however, no need to struggle. This ground is actually a safe haven. The only problem is your impulsive desire to get back on track. Forget about it. Relax. Wait for the tides to rise and set you free.

TAURUS (April 20–May 20)

You are one to appreciate the sensible logic of reality, even when it isnt telling you what you want to hear. Youve been a bit fired up. Maybe its the holiday season. Maybe its just you. Either way, take the signs of your situations as reason to slow down. Running around isn't going to bring you the peace and happiness that youre seeking.

GEMINI (May 21–June 20)

Excitement about your day will overcome whatever obstacles now appear to your plans. You might as well start out with the understanding that youre not going to get everything done that you set out to do. CANCER (June 21–July 22)

There are stresses--no doubt about it--and they could be coming from others rather than you. Its not that you are without your own stuff, but others seem to be pushing you to do things youd rather not do. Or perhaps they are laying guilt trips on you. Whatever the circumstances are, dont give up your power. Dont go into denial. Be who you are and hold your ground.

LEO (July 23–August 22)

Sure, theres fun in the air, and youre ready to partake in it. But, at the same time, you are aware of commitments that youve made or things that you should do--and you may not feel like doing them. This dilemma is not a new one for you. You might get yourself into a similar situation every year around the holidays. Find a way to take care of your responsibilities, for then youll truly be able to have the fun youd like to have.

VIRGO (August 23–September 22)

A wave of duty-bound feelings washes over you as you cheerfully take on a role for someone you love. This may not be exactly what you planned. In some ways, this is a departure from how you most often express yourself in love. Nevertheless, it feels good and will allow you to maintain your sense of practicality while you are doing something nice for someone else.

LIBRA (September 23–October 22)

On one hand, you feel freer now. Maybe its that youve finally accepted your feelings, however weird you might have judged them at first. Maybe its because you know that circumstances will continue to change and that you still have a shot at finding the happiness you are seeking. One thing is for certain. Responsibilities are mounting and you have things you must do. Dont put them off. Do it now.

SCORPIO (October 23–November 22)

You have found your groove, even if it sometimes feels like youd rather be doing something else. Choices made are not easily undone and its healthy that you are resigned to just get on with whats in front of you now. You will probably be busier than normal, but you should be able to structure your responsibilities so that you still have time for the enjoyable activities of the season.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22–Dececember 21)

Theres no time now for wasted energy. Steer yourself clear of conflicts and disputes, for they probably wont amount to anything important. They are more of a distraction than anything else. You have excess physical energy and its important to find ways to burn it off. If you dont, it could transform into anger and then youll find yourself in the very conflicts you need to avoid.

CAPRICORN (December 22–January 19)

The Solstice marks the return of the Sun to your sign. Dont wait until your birthday. Start formulating your wishes now and hold them near and dear for the entire month of Capricorn. If things happen today that rattle your security, try to take them in stride. Part of this phase has to do with you loosening your grip of control on reality. If you dont do it, circumstances will probably help you out.

AQUARIUS (January 20–February 18)

Are those feelings of paranoia? Or is someone really trying to undermine you at this time? Hidden feelings now have a tendency to come back and bit you in the ankle. Or, perhaps youll stumble over a hidden rock or some other obstacle. Your current goal is to increase awareness. Bring the secrets out into the open. Shine lights into the darkness of your own closets. The more you know, the easier it will be.

PISCES (February 19–March 19)

Your social life is ready to pick up now, and its more than just the holidays. You have a practical need to be around people who have stood by you in the past and will be there when you need them in the future. And, at the same time, you are ready to be a real friend to others. Even if you are drawn into your own fantasies, try to push outward. Being involved in groups of people can add safety and stability to your life.
