MIL Breaking Christmas Rules!

We had this agreement with both our families two years ago that we were no longer going to be buying for adults. I know for a fact that Eric's mom bought for both of us this year and that just makes me mad! With all the kids in our families, we just cannot afford any more for adults. I know she bought Eric something at a value of almost $600 and me $100!! I am just upset because they have done so much to help us in the past and I would love to get them both something special, but we just can't afford to. I also don't feel right getting for them, and no other adults and we can't do it. I wish she would just stick to the rules!

I guess just take the gifts, say Thank You and leave it at that. They probably don't expect anything from you since you have the rules in place.

I agree with Lori. She was told no more gift exchanging and if she goes and buys gifts then that is up to her. You shouldnt feel obligated to buy her anything, because you have all discussed it already. We go through this every year with my brother. I keep telling him to quit buying for our kids and they still do. But we dont buy there kids stuff. I dont feel bad because I told him to stop and they dont.

I agree. If they feel that even though they won't get a gift they still want to give to you then that is thier choice. Maybe you could make them a gift or find a special card that says how much they mean to you?

Ooh, good idea Becky!

Perhaps a nice framed photo of your family and a card. I'm sure they don't expect anything in return.

I made my mom hand prints of the kids and I know she will cherish it. I had all the ingredients and it was really simple to do as well.

P{arents think the rules don't apply to them. I am sure they would not want you to worry or feel bad that you didn't get them anything.
